Recognize fake websites faster in Safari

Difficulty recognizing fake websites? Safari on the Mac then has a nice feature for you; one that recognizes fake sites.

Phishing emails come in all shapes and sizes. But in general, they have one thing in common: they try to lure their target to a fake website, which asks for personal information. People also open fake websites, for example online stores, via search engines. The fact that the website is fake is usually not noticeable at first. For example, there are very convincing counterfeit sites of banks, government institutions and online stores. If people enter their details here, the scammers will strike. For example, they loot the victim’s bank account.

Internet program Safari notifies you if a site may be fraudulent. Of course, the internet user also has to pay attention because something can always slip through the security. But it does help fight fake sites. The option to receive a warning from fake sites must first be activated by the user. Do it like this:

  • Open Safari.
  • Click on at the top Safari > Preferences.
  • click on Security.
  • Put a tick in front of Warn when visiting a fraudulent website.

Safari notifies you when someone is about to visit a (potentially) fraudulent website. Then click on the red ball at the top left to close the website or on the arrow to the left to go back to the previous page. Are you absolutely sure the website can be trusted? Then click on Continue anyway to visit the website again.

Have you received an email that you do not trust? SeniorWeb has the Phishing Checker especially for members. Send in suspicious emails and we’ll let you know if it’s phishing.
