Reconfirmed: only the iPhone 14 Pro will get A16 chip

Apple supplies the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) with a brand new A16 chip, but not the regular iPhone 14. We have heard this rumor before and it has now been confirmed again.

For the fastest chip, choose a Pro

Apple releases new iPhones every year. Until now, every new iPhone always had an updated chip – regardless of whether it was a ‘regular’ or a Pro iPhone. That will change this year. The iPhone 14 retains the A15 chip, which we know from the iPhone 13 (Pro). That confirms known source TrendForce† Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also agrees.

The reason Apple is not giving the iPhone 14 a chip upgrade is unknown. According to the rumors, the differences between the A15 and the A16 are not very big. All iPhone 13 users know how lightning fast the A15 is and that a speed upgrade is not really necessary. Even the iPhone 11 with an almost three-year-old A13 chip still flies through the most graphics-intensive apps.

Render of iPhone 14 Pro

There is a good chance that Apple wants to distinguish the iPhone 14 Pro from the regular 14. The iPhone 13 and 13 Pro are very similar – except for the ProMotion screen and the zoom lens of the 13 Pro. Apple may want to give users more reasons to choose a Pro model.

More about the iPhone 14 Pro

The iPhone 14 Pro will once again have a 6.1-inch OLED screen with ProMotion technology. This means that the display refreshes itself at a maximum rate of 120Hz. There will also be a larger iPhone 14 Pro Max, with a 6.7-inch display. Are you planning to purchase one? Then you will have to dig deep into your pocket, because both iPhones are more expensive than their predecessors.

The latter probably does not apply to the regular iPhone 14 and the new iPhone 14 Max. These smartphones are very similar to the current iPhone 13. The devices also retain the well-known notch. This disappears on the Pro models and is replaced by two holes in the screen.
