Do not call registry stops
As of 1 July 2021, the Do not call register will cease to exist. On that date, a new law for telemarketing will come into effect, which means that people can no longer be called simply for telephone marketing. The Do Not Call Registry will destroy all personal data. Anyone who is still called by organizations after 1 July can make use of the Right of Resistance. The organization must then delete your phone data.
No more sellers
Every now and then a phone call for a newspaper subscription or cheaper energy contract. It’s annoying to say the least. Register your telephone number in the Do Not Call Registry and companies are no longer allowed to call you for commercial offers or, for example, for donations to charities. They must first verify that your phone number is registered before contacting you.
Register phone number
An account is required to register your telephone number in the Register. This is automatically created upon registration. Sign up as follows:
- go to it Do not call me Register. You will be taken to the ‘Registration telephone number to be blocked’ page.
- Enter an email address and your name. click on Further.
- Also enter your zip code, house number, street name and place of residence. click on Further.
- Click in the bar below ‘Phone number’ and enter your phone number.
- Under ‘Blocks’, click on the squares for the topics about which you do not want to be called. If you do not want to be called on any of the topics, click at the bottom of Tick ​​all.
- click on Save.
- The Do Not Call Registry will send an email with a link to change your account password. Click on the link.
- The website of the Do Not Call Register opens again. click on login.
- Click on the bar under ‘Password’ and type in a password of your choice.
- Repeat the password under ‘Confirm password’.
- click on Save.
- An overview of your data opens and it is stated which telephone number you have registered. You can register more telephone numbers with the ‘Register a telephone number’ button.
Exceptions
In two cases, companies are still allowed to contact you:
- If you are or have been a customer of the company you are calling.
- If you yourself have requested to be contacted by telephone.
Are you (or have been) a customer and do you still not want the company to contact you? Do not immediately hang up when you receive a call from the company. At the end of the phone call you will hear a tape. At the end you can indicate via a menu that you no longer wish to be called.
