The number of contacts in WhatsApp often continues to grow. Therefore, check the list critically. For example, if a contact is diluted, you can delete the data via WhatsApp.
Delete contact and chat from android device
Delete contact
The contacts are not stored in WhatsApp, but on the phone. WhatsApp retrieves the data from the phone’s address book. When you delete someone, their data is no longer in your phone. So don’t throw away numbers of people you still want to contact.
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap the tab chats.
- Tap the icon for a new chat
. - Tap the desired contact.
- Tap the contact’s name at the top.
- Tap the ‘Menu’ icon at the top right
. - Tap on Show in Address Book.
- Tap the ‘Menu’ icon .
- Tap on To clear > To clear.
Delete chat
The number and the chat (the conversations) remain in WhatsApp. Only the name of the contact disappears. You can also delete the chat from WhatsApp.
- Go to WhatsApp.
- Tap the tab chats.
- Tap a little longer on chat you want to delete.
- A green check mark will appear on the chat. Tap the trash can icon at the top.
- Put a tick in front of Remove media from my phone if you want to delete this person’s photos and videos as well.
- Tap on remove.

- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap the tab chats
. - Tap the desired contact.
- Tap the contact’s name at the top.
- Tap on edit.
- Tap on Delete contact > Delete contact.
Delete chat
The number and the chat (the conversations) remain in WhatsApp. Only the name of the contact disappears. You can also delete the chat from WhatsApp.
- Go to WhatsApp.
- Tap on chats.
- Swipe the chat to the left.
- Tap on More.
- Tap on Delete chat > Delete chat.
