Do you want to rename the AirTag, for example because you are going to use the tracker for another object? That is very simple, but you have to know where to look. In this article we explain how it works.
Rename AirTag
When setting up your AirTag, you indicate which object you want to track with it. You also give the Apple tracker a name so that you can easily recognize it. This is useful, for example, when you use multiple AirTags.
When you are going to track the location of another object, it is wise to rename your AirTag. Then also change the type of object (such as backpack, bag or keys) because then Siri will understand you better when you ask, for example, where your bag is.
This is how you rename your AirTags:
- Open the Find My app on your iPhone and go to the ‘Objects’ tab;
- Tap the AirTag you want to rename;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Change object name’;
- Select one of the default names, or tap ‘Custom Name’ to make up your own;
- Ready? Then tap ‘Done’.

Not only is it possible to rename your AirTag; you can also change the emoji. You will see this icon on the map in the Find My app to indicate where your Apple tracker is.
You change the emoji of your AirTag by tapping on the current emoji in step 3 of the diagram above. This is next to the name of the item. You can then set another icon.
