Multifunctional repeater with high throughput
In addition to the advanced FRITZ!Boxes, AVM also supplies a series of FRITZ!Repeaters. This series was recently expanded with the FRITZ!Repeater 3000AX. The AX already betrays that it is a Wi-Fi 6 model. The 1200AX and 6000 had already appeared as a Wi-Fi 6 repeater. This model falls in between and has the features of the bigger brother, but with a little less total network bandwidth for a lower price.
FRITZ!Repeater 3000AX
The 3000AX repeater offers three channels, 2.4 GHz with 600 Mbps and two 5 GHz with 1200 and 2400 Mbps. These channels are optimally used in combination with a FRITZ!Box that supports Wi-Fi 6 and also 3 channels. This brings the combined throughput to a total theoretical value of 3000 Mbps. A router model that can be optimally combined with, for example, is the FRITZ!Box4060. But excellent results can also be achieved in combination with other FRITZ!Boxes or routers from other parties. This repeater is compatible with all 802.11 ax/ac/n/g/b/a routers. Because there are several streams available per channel, multiple users can make optimal use of the wireless network at the same time.
Use tires
The 5GHz-I/2400Mbps band is used to interconnect the mesh systems. This will make a highway available for mutual communication. The 5GHz-II/1200Mbps band is then for the fast equipment and the 2.4GHz/600Mbps band for the less fast equipment. The 3000AX also has two 1Gbps LAN ports. One of the ports can also be used to create a wired 1Gbps backbone. In this way, a Wi-Fi 6 access point can also be created in case the current router does not provide Wi-Fi 6. WPA2 and/or WPA3 encryption is used for data transport.
Installation
Installation is a piece of cake by pressing the WPS buttons in line with the instruction, after which the connection is automatically established and the configuration transferred. The quality of the connection and thus the correct location can be checked via the FRITZ!WLAN app by evaluating the position of the repeater.
Test results
We test the configuration with a FRITZ!Box 4060 with a FRITZ!Repeater 3000AX at a location about 7 meters away from the router and on the 2e floor through two concrete layers. Over short distances we see a net average wireless data transfer rate over the LAN connection of 860 Mbps and 400 Mbps for Wi-Fi. On the upper floor, that comes with a link on the LAN port at 450 Mbps and 300 Mbps via WiFi. In a configuration where two bands are used, the results are slightly lower. These are results that are more than sufficient for all current applications.
Conclusion
The 3000AX is a versatile 3-band repeater with good throughputs. Maximum functionality and speed is achieved in combination with FRITZ!Box routers with the same band configuration.
