Homey helps you control the various devices in your home, using your phone, tablet or computer. With the optional Homey Bridge, the different devices can talk to each other. The smart box supports well-known protocols, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth and 433 MHz. You don’t necessarily need the bridge. This is useful if you want to experiment first.

So called Flows play an important role within the Homey ecosystem. They are similar to the routines (or applets) that a party like IFTTT is also involved in. You let the system perform specific actions based on predefined variables. Homey uses a simple user environment. This is nice, because it also allows non-technical housemates to get started relatively quickly. You will find an overview of supported devices on the makers’ website. You can also read which Flows are possible with the device in question. If you need more control, you can use Advanced Flow. Through drag & drop components you build the routines. If you really get the hang of it, you can get more functionality with Homey Pro. You will then have access to the Homey Pro hardware, which also handles the tasks locally (i.e. without online dependency). You can also add the Homey Pro Bridge for better wireless coverage.
