The new Huawei Watch GT 3 46mm has almost everything to be the smartwatch you want. Read in this review whether that is also the case.
Huawei has not had it with us for a long time from its smartphones. However, Huawei has a lot more to offer than the latest Huawei 50 Pro and Huawei 50 Pocket. For example, Huawei releases excellent Matebooks (notebooks) and excellent Freebuds (earbuds) and recently a Mateview (monitor) and Joy (bluetooth speaker). Huawei also stands its ground in the field of smartwatches, as is apparent from the review of the new Huawei Watch GT 3 46mm.
Design Huawei Watch GT 3
In terms of design, Huawei has done well with its smartwatches. They look stylish and that also applies to this Huawei Watch GT 3. The clear 1.43” AMOLED touchscreen of the Watch GT 3 46mm is incorporated in a stainless steel watch case that provides the watch with the necessary sturdiness. Nevertheless, this attractive smartwatch is lightweight: without the strap, the Huawei Watch GT 3 46mm weighs only 42.6 grams and is 11 mm thick, while the Huawei Watch GT 3 42mm weighs 35 grams and is 10.2 mm thick. Since I also wear this smartwatch at night, a light wearing comfort is very pleasant. It also helps that I use a nice brown leather strap this time, which is of course different from the stainless steel version. But it doesn’t matter much, because I normally wear the latter with the Watch 3 Pro and I don’t have any problems with that. It also has tempered glass and curved edges that look stylish.
On the right side, at the level of the 2 on the dial, is a rotating crown. You can turn this jog wheel to scroll, navigate through apps and zoom, and you can also press it to select a menu option. Below the crown, at the level of the 4 on the dial, is a fairly flat button. By pressing this you return to the previous menu or you start a workout/training.
Interface
The new interface for all options looks “chessboard-like” and you can use the launcher move freely and therefore also zoom in. By the Always On display Dials (AODs) keeps the smartwatch screen on during daily use; In addition, your watch can ‘turn on’ by lifting your wrist.
Sporty performance Huawei Watch GT 3
So it’s great that you can absolutely be seen with the Huawei Watch GT 3, it is of course also about what it performs. With this Watch GT 3, Huawei is certainly targeting sporty users. For example, this smartwatch supports more than 100 workout or training modes that monitor your performance, including 12 outdoor workouts (running, hiking, mountaineering, hiking, cycling, open water swimming, triathlon, skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and golf) and 6 indoor workouts (walking, running, cycling, swimming in the pool, free training, cross trainer and rowing machine). Bizarrely, Huawei does not call the Watch GT 3 your personal trainer for nothing.
To run
Especially if you are a (beginning) runner, you have come to the right place with this smartwatch. There are many running options to choose from and you can, for example, create a running plan via Training Plan, the training plan adapts directly to your performance and works well. It is also handy that you can easily analyze your running session afterwards. I am also satisfied with the reasonably accurate location determination of the running track thanks to the support of 5 satellite navigation systems (Dual-Band Five-System GNSS positioning). You can also make or receive calls via the watch, because the GT 3 is equipped with a built-in microphone. It’s nice that you can immediately see who is calling during your run without immediately grabbing your smartphone. You have to carry it with you for this, because the watch does not have eSIM.
All in all, excellent for the runners among us.
Sensors
In addition to accurately tracking your sporting performance, you can also accurately track your health. For example, biometric sensors keep track of your heart rate, oxygen level (SpO2), skin temperature, stress and sleep. The accuracy of the heart rate monitor has been improved thanks to, among other things, 8 photodiodes and the all-new PPG 5.0 module. I am less satisfied with the tracking of my sleep: he regularly indicates too many hours of sleep, you know roughly what time you go to sleep and wake up…
battery life
Despite keeping up with 46mm of everything, the Huawei Watch GT 3 has an impressive battery life of 14 days with normal use. Apparently I’m not a normal user, because I didn’t make it myself. Nevertheless, you can use the Watch GT 3 46mm for a long time, while the Huawei Watch GT 3 42mm offers a stated battery life of 7 days with normal use.
Software and Support
While the predecessor Watch GT 2 still ran on WearOS, the Huawei Watch GT 3 is equipped with HarmonyOS 2.1 and in terms of uniformity with other Huawei devices, that is very nice. If you want to make optimal use of this Watch, you will have to download Huawei’s excellent Health app in Huawei’s AppGallery on your Android phone or iPhone.
Huawei reports that the number of third-party apps on the Huawei Watch GT 3 has increased in the areas of daily life, travel, gaming, entertainment, work, fitness and health. Nevertheless, HarmonyOS unfortunately lags behind compared to Android and iOS, which support many more (known) apps. We also miss support for contactless payment, which is always handy for a smartwatch.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a smartwatch and you are also sporty, then the Huawei Watch GT 3 is an excellent choice: it looks beautiful, has a clear sharp screen, has many sports modes and has an excellent battery life and price. in other words, definitely recommended.
