
A richly-featured 31.5-inch 4K monitor with realistic colors
A 31.5-inch screen with 4K resolution has the ideal combination of a large work surface with good readability. The iiyama Prolite XUB3293UHSN is such a monitor, with narrow bezels in matte black. It features a KVM switch and a USB-C dock with integrated RJ45 LAN connection. With a KVM switch, devices connected to the monitor via USB can be shared between two different computers. By changing the signal input in the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu, the keyboard, mouse and webcam switch from the work laptop to, for example, the gaming PC or another workstation.
When using a monitor with a USB-C dock, the laptop is connected to the dock with a single USB-C cable. Communication is established with the two USB-a ports, the laptop is automatically charged and it is connected to the wired network via the RJ45 plug of the monitor. This technique ensures a neat and tidy desk that can be quickly connected and disconnected. The DisplayPort connector on the monitor can be used to link a second display using DisplayPort Multi Stream Transport (MST). Communication with the laptop then runs via the USB-C cable and recognizes both screens. The matte, flicker-free screen is IPS for a wide viewing angle (178°) and realistic colors (99% sRGB). The resolution is 3840 x 2160 pixels, the pixel response time 4 ms, the image frequency 60 Hz and the brightness 350 nits. Those are fine values ​​for general computing.
On the back are connections for HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2 and USB-C with a maximum of 65 watts of power for the laptop. The system’s USB-C cable connects to the USB-C dock, which features two USB-A connectors on the left with V3.0 (5Gbps and 5V/900mA) support. If the PC or laptop does not have USB-C, a link can be made from a USB-A port to a USB-B connector on the back of the screen. All types of cables are included. The sound is reproduced via two 3 watt speakers and sounds somewhat hollow and flat. A 3.5mm jack is available for audio out to headphones.
The rich set of OSD settings is controlled by four buttons on the back right next to the Power On/Off-knob. This is more convenient with, for example, a joystick. In addition to the various screen settings, there is an option for blue light reduction to protect the eyes in the evenings. The following ergonomic features are available: pivoting on the base, height adjustment of 13 cm, rotation and tilt of the screen. A VESA connection is available on the back for wall mounting. Power consumption is 36 watts and 0.5 watts in stand-by or off.
