Review Philips 55OLED808: OLED screen with excellent image and perfect black

Sound and Vision
An OLED screen provides a high contrast because black is really black because the pixels do not transmit light. The image therefore looks much better than with the lower priced LCD screens. It is controlled with the P5 AI Picture Engine with Quad Core processor to display images with great detail. In addition to SDR, HDR is also processed, namely HDR10, HDR10+, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and Dolby Vision. This gives the image extra detail and improved colors. The color range is particularly good, the light intensity is good enough for a quiet, clear image and the viewing angle is very wide. The 4.1 TV sound is excellent, but with external speakers you can optimally enjoy spatial displays via DTS, Dolby Digital and Dolby Atmos.

Connections
The connections include 2x HDMI2.0 and 2xHDM2.1 (1 ARC/eARC) and a CI+ slot and coaxial connection for TV reception. There is also an internet connection, SPDIF and DTS Play-Fi. The long, slim remote control is easy to operate, but does not integrate with an external TV box.

Ambilight
The installed version is called AmbiLight Next Generation and consists of 3 strips of LEDs on the top and sides, with each LED controlled separately. Use the remote control to choose the available display styles.

Google TV and game mode
With Google TV, including Chromecast, you can stream anything from the internet, smartphone, etc. to your TV. All known streaming services are available and four can be selected directly via the remote control. Voice control is possible with the Google Assistant. The whole thing responds and works very smoothly.

The HDMI 2.1 connections provide gaming functions including VRR (Variable Refresh Rate/G-Sync), ALLM (Automatic Low Latency Mode) and HFR (High Frame Rate, 4K/120). A Game Bar gives the gamer an extensive control panel.

Conclusion
This 55″ OLED TV provides a clear and sharp image with perfect black, which enhances the contrast and thus optimizes the entire image. OLED in combination with AmbiLight is a unique experience.
