Video conferencing has become very popular in the last year. Trust is responding to this with the IRIS with an integrated 4K camera, microphones and a loudspeaker. This wants to bring conferences up to 8 people to a high quality level.
The IRIS is a black oval unit of 60 cm wide and 14 cm high with base. He weighs over 4 kg. A bracket for wall mounting is included, but you can also place it on the conference table. In the middle we see a large movable eye that is part of the camera system. The outer ring of the camera indicates the status of the unit. Internally, a loudspeaker is built in on the left and on the right a group of four directional microphones for the spoken word. At the back we see a USB-C input for connection to a laptop, a voltage connection and a USB-A connection for an optional microphone, if the distance between speaker and microphone is more than 5 meters.
The camera offers up to UHD/4K (3840 x 2180) resolution at 60 fps and a wide angle of 120 degrees. The lens can be steered both horizontally (113°) and vertically (83°). 5x digital zoom is available. The camera uses image enhancement under the name ClearView, based on an 8.5 megapixel high-resolution sensor and HDR. ClearSound optimizes speech sound, applying noise reduction.
The IRIS connects to a USB port on a laptop or PC with a 3m USB-C/USB-A cable. An extension cable is optionally available. A power adapter for connection to the mains voltage is included. Windows or MacOS X discovers the unit automatically and no separate software is required, so the whole thing is Plug and Play. The IRIS is compatible with well-known video conferencing applications including Microsoft Teams and Zoom. The unit has built-in intelligence, but also makes everything manually controllable via the supplied remote control. The intelligence consists of face tracking, automatically zooming in on the group size and selecting the correct directional microphone from the microphone group, eliminating ambient noise. There is also a Bluetooth mode, where only speech is possible.
We use the Windows Camera app and the Audacity app for the initial test and analysis of the picture and sound. We must first open the Sound settings and set the input and output device to Trust IRIS. The image of the IRIS looks wide and clear. Zooming in uses digital technology. This softens the image, eliminating image distortion. The sound is filtered or optimized for speech and is clear up to five meters and without noise.
During live sessions we hear from the audience that the image and sound is of high quality. The IRIS is therefore a valuable addition for use in video conferencing.
