The new series of Samsung QD-OLED 4K TVs consists of 55, 65 and 77-inch models. We are reviewing the 65-inch model with the following dimensions: 144.5 x 90 x 1cm. So it does require some space. A stand is included and the TV can also, optionally, be mounted on the wall. This unit consists of two parts: the screen and a unit with the electronics, the One Connect box. They connect with a single light-colored cable, so the screen can be placed close to the wall.

OLED screen
The second generation QD-OLED is used. Compared to the previous model, the light intensity has been significantly increased to approximately 1400 nits with a color rendering of 100% P3. The HDR support is HDR10, HDR10+ and the HLG formats, but Dolby Vision support is unfortunately missing. The screen is also suitable for gamers with up to 4K/144Hz image refresh via the HDMI 2.1 connections. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) are also supported.
Technology
The One Connect box contains all the processing power and software for operating and controlling the image and sound. It offers 4x HDMI 2.1, 3x USB, coax and CI slot and Toslink-connection all desirable connections. FreeSync is available for the gamer. The TV control is Samsung’s own Tizen. The intelligent one upscaling works well, so low resolution images look good.
Sound and Vision
The image of S95C is particularly good: sharp with high contrast and clarity and therefore lifelike natural colors. It is wonderful to watch, both SDR (standard TV) and HDR (many streaming services), and it is as if you are there, almost 3D. Various settings are possible to adjust the image to your own wishes or use. Direct incident light is not desired.
The sound comes from the back of the screen and is generated by a 70-watt amplifier that drives a 4.4.2 speaker set and supports Dolby Atmos. There is also OTS+ (Object Tracking Sound) that moves the sound along with what’s happening on the screen. The sound quality is good, but lacks some dynamics. If you want more surround sound, you will have to rely on a soundbar, with or without a subwoofer, or even more intensely, a multi-channel AV amplifier with separate speakers to match cinema sound.
Remote control
The remote control has a minimalist design and is therefore easy to operate. No batteries are required: you can charge via USB-C or the solar panel at the rear. Operation is entirely via the screen, with voice control as an option. The AB syncs with the provider’s set-top box, so everything works conveniently with one remote control.
Conclusion
With this device, Samsung has managed to set a high-end standard with a sublime image. Price can be a barrier. There is competition from the LG G3 and the Sony A95L.
