Revoke sent mail in Gmail

Revoke sent mail in Gmail

Regret a sent email? Undo the send in Gmail and thus revoke the mail!

It’s a well-known frustration: you click ‘Send’ and in the same instant you discover a horrific spelling mistake. If only it was possible to retrieve the message, correct the error and then resend the email. You’ll be happy to hear that Gmail really does. The option is called ‘Undo Send’ and does exactly what its name says. You simply enable this option. You can then set the so-called cancellation period. That is the time within which you can still retrieve the e-mail. There is a maximum of thirty seconds. More than enough, don’t you think?

Enable this handy option as follows:

  • Go to gmail and log in.
  • Click the ‘Settings’ icon at the top right Institutions.
  • click on All settingsn view.
  • Click on the tab at the top General if this tab is not already opened automatically.
  • Specify how long the cancellation period should be after ‘Undo send’. Choose from five, ten, twenty or thirty seconds.
  • Scroll all the way down and click Saving Changes.

Now you are of course curious how the retrieval of a message works.

  • Create a new message in Gmail. For example, addressed to yourself (as a test).
  • click on Send.
  • At the bottom left you will see the text ‘Message sent.’ Next to it is the ‘Undo’ link. Click on it within the set time and your message will be retrieved!
