RingConn: Smart ring to closely monitor your health

Nowadays, there are various tools to keep a close eye on your health. New in the tech landscape is the smart ring, with which you can monitor various aspects of your body with a simple ring around your finger. For this review, we have the RingConn Smart Ring tested.

The RingConn is a smart ring made of titanium and equipped with all kinds of sensors to register your heart rate, saturation, sleep, stress level and activity. This gives you a good picture of your overall health.

What is a smart ring?

A Smart Ring is basically a compact, wearable gadget that you wear on your finger and is equipped with technological functions. In general, the rings are mainly used to register various health aspects. But there are also smart rings with a display or built-in chip to be able to pay with.

A ring is small, compact and can be worn at all times. They can also be charged very quickly, so you can use them almost anytime.

RingConn Smart Ring

In the case of RingConn is a smart ring with health functions. The ring contains sensors that can register your heart rate and blood oxygen levels. In addition, sleep, activity and stress are also registered. The data can be found in the linked app and can be synchronized with Apple Health (Health app) and Google Fit.

Determining the perfect size

Anyone interested in the RingConn can purchase it via their website. In most cases, you will not know the exact size of the ring, but the company has come up with a solution for that. When you decide to purchase it, you will first have to test kit sent home with all available sizes. This allows you to test the different sizes at your leisure, which is also necessary.

I myself have also used the test kit to determine the correct size. It is advisable to first look for the size that fits best, but is not too tight. Wear the test ring for at least 24 hours and check whether your fingers swell during the day. I had trouble with a ring that was too tight towards the end of the day and therefore tried a size larger. It is also advisable to test the ring on different fingers.

Which finger to choose?

Regardless of whether the ring is placed on the index, middle, or ring finger, the data collected remains remarkably consistent. The precision of this data is usually affected by variables such as the fit of the ring, the density of finger hair, the skin color of an individual, and other relevant factors such as sweat.

In principle, the RingConn ring can be worn on any finger. It is important that the sensors are placed against the base of your finger, preferably on the side of your palm.

Pairing RingConn

After you receive the RingConn you can connect it to the free RingConn app for iPhone. This is a health app where you can find all collected data.

To connect the app to the ring, Bluetooth Low Energy is used. An energy-efficient wireless communication technology designed for short-range connections between devices. It enables efficient data transfer, making it ideal for devices such as fitness trackers.

It is also good to know that the ring only connects to the app sporadically or when you open the app. This keeps the battery of your iPhone and the ring itself optimal. Once the ring is connected, you can wear it and it will automatically collect all kinds of health data.

The RingConn automatically records various aspects of your health such as heart rate, blood oxygen, stress and your sleep. Below is an overview of all health data that is recorded:

Check data in RingConn app

In the screenshots above you can clearly see the different data that the ring measures during the wearing period. The app is clearly and simply divided into different categories.

Sleep, activity and stress are shown in daily graphs. This is also the case for the vital health, but it also has the option to do a live measurement immediately, so you get the right data immediately.

Data accuracy

The most important question is of course: how accurate are the measurements? To find out I did several measurements with other health devices including an Apple Watch Ultra 2.

In general, the measurements are the same as those of the Apple Watch. This is clearly visible in the data for sleep and oxygen in the blood. The heart rate measurements are slightly less accurate. For example, these are slightly higher for me than with the same measurements as the Apple Watch.

Counting steps and activity also matches the Apple Watch well. The ring accurately measures when a (sports) activity starts and ends. However, the calories burned are on average 15% higher, possibly a different calculation model is used.

Battery life RingConn

Another important aspect of the smart ring is the battery life. RingConn advertises a battery life of seven days. At first I was a bit skeptical, how can such a small device that measures so much data, last so long on one battery charge. Probably by making very clever use of the sensors, bluetooth connection and only ‘being active’ when it is really necessary.

The battery of the RingConn lasts at least six days, seven it also does, but then it is really empty. Clever, because you regularly see the sensors become active and perform measurements. In addition, I check the data a few times a day and a Bluetooth connection is established.

The ring can be charged wirelessly in the included storage and charging case. This is equipped with an internal battery, so you can easily charge the RingConn on the go. You can charge the charging case via a USB-C connection. Fully charging the ring takes a maximum of 90 minutes (0 to 100%).

Wearing comfort RingConn

I had to get used to using the RingConn at first, apart from my wedding ring I don’t wear rings. In addition, the RingConn is not completely round and is more ‘square’ with strongly rounded corners. Because of this you feel it in the beginning. It is also thicker (2.6 mm) than a normal ring and also slightly wider (7.8 mm). With a weight of 3 to 5 grams (depending on the size) it is not too heavy.

I wear it around my index finger and that is a nice place because then he has all the space on one side. I also wear it around my thumb sometimes, that fits perfectly.

The smart ring feels soft and strong. The inside contains a transparent layer with two bumps that keep the ring in place. This is not disturbing, if you order the right size. If it is too small, the bumps will press and if it is too big, it still turns around.

Material and colours

The ring is forged in titanium and finished with a PVD coating (Physical Vapor Deposition). A modern technique that uses condensation of atoms or molecules from a gas or vapor during the process. This creates a wafer-thin layer that is only one to three micrometers thick. The rings from RingConn are available in the colours: Moonlit Silver, Midnight Black and Pale Gold.

The PVD coating increases the corrosion and scratch resistance. Like all rings, scratches will eventually become visible, and this is also the case for this Smart Ring. We tested a black and a silver one and both showed light scratches. These are the least noticeable on the silver one. I therefore recommend this colour. If desired, you can also choose a Ring Protector to purchase.

Data protection

RingConn is originally a Chinese brand and for many European citizens, questions about their privacy will be central. According to RingConn, your data and privacy are always protected. For example, the collected data is never sold to third parties. In addition, the data is protected in accordance with GDPR, European legislation and CCPA. The RingConn systems detect and block all suspicious activities related to your account, which provides an extra layer of security. Read more about their privacy policy here back.

Sync with Apple Health

If desired, you can share all collected data with Apple Health. In the Health app, you can then view and save the data. This is not a requirement, because the RingConn app already shows the results in a clear way. In addition, RingConn also offers support for Google Fit.

Conclusion: RingConn Smart Ring

APPLETIPS
REVIEW SCORE
4.5 /5

The RingConn Smart Ring is an excellent accessory if you want to keep a close eye on your health. The ring registers various aspects of your health such as heart rate, blood oxygen, activity, stress level and sleep quality.

The ring is comfortable to wear, feels soft and firm and stays in place well. The measurements of the RingConn are accurate and comparable to other health products. With the help of the free RingConn app you can view all collected data in detail.
