Together with Watchos 26, Apple introduces a new Apple Watch gesture in the line of ‘Tap Dubbel’. On an Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 9 or newer you can handle notifications even more easily with a fast wrist movement.
By turning your wrist you can now ignore notifications, close apps or return to the dial without touching the screen of the Apple Watch or a button. It is a solution that many Apple Watch users will be happy with, since it solves the necessary frustrations.
Rotate wrist with Apple Watch Gestery
With the arrival of Watchos 26, the Apple Watch gets a handy new gesture: by simply turning your wrist you can quickly get notifications out of the picture, return to the dial, close an app and perform even more actions. It works like this:
For example, if you lift your wrist to view a notification, but do not want to respond yet, you can quickly turn your wrist back and forth to ignore the message. This new gesture is the opposite of the tap double-gesture, with which you correctly answer notifications or make calls.
Enable fast wrist movement
- Open ‘Settings’ on your Apple Watch
- Go to ‘gestures’
- Call in the ‘Fast wrist movement’ option
Use wrist turn
You can use the fast wrist movement for the applications below:
- Close applications
- Ignore and close notifications
- Ignore and stop incoming calls
- Timers and alarm clocks stop
- Return to the dial, for example from the smart stack with widgets

The wrist movement is analyzed on the basis of the gear meter and gyroscope, in combination with a machine leasring model.
Available Apple Watch models
Running the wrist with Apple Watch Gesture is available on the Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 9 or newer. Older models unfortunately cannot use this gesture.
Tap double-gesture
With the Tap double-gesture On the Apple Watch you can confirm actions by tapping your index and thumb from the same hand twice quickly. This allows you to perform common actions such as answering notifications, accept answers to messages or telephone conversations, without touching the screen. This gesture works on the Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple Watch Series 9 or newer and is especially useful if you don’t have your other hand free.
