Samsung: "Galaxy S22 made from ocean fishing nets"

Samsung has announced that the Samsung Galaxy S22 is made from recycled material made from fishing nets from the ocean. 640,000 tons of fishing nets are dumped into the ocean every year.

Recycling S22 Series

We are two days away from the launch of the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, but Samsung is already revealing more about the material with which the housings of the phones are made. Samsung says in a blog post that it has created a new material that was manufactured with fishing nets left behind from the ocean.

When you think of plastic in the ocean, you immediately think of plastic bags and bottles, but according to an investigation as Samsung refers to, fishermen dump 640,000 tons of fishing nets into the oceans every year. It destroys coral reefs and threatens marine life.

Previously, Samsung also used recycled plastic in chargers and remote controls for its televisions, among other things. Since last year, the brand no longer supplies a charger with its flagships as standard.

100 percent recycled?

However, Samsung does not disclose for what percentage the housing of the S22 series consists of recycled plastic. Fairphone launched its first phone last year whose back is made of 100 percent recycled plastic. We have asked Samsung for more clarity.
