Satisfy the hunger of battery guzzler iOS 16 with 5 useful tips

Since the full rollout of iOS 16, we’ve heard an incredible number of iPhone users complaining in the digital corridors. The biggest problem: the battery that gets a nice tap from the update. Time to fix it!

There are plenty of ways to satisfy the hunger of this battery-guzzling update. You can significantly extend the battery life of your iPhone and OMT editor Mark Hofman explains exactly how to do that.

iOS 16 a problem for the iPhone

iOS 16 brings a lot of nice features to your iPhone, but not without cost. The new update unfortunately ensures that the battery life of your iPhone gets a nice blow. Provided you leave all settings as Apple presents them.

Fortunately, there are ways how you can ensure that the battery of your iPhone is less drained. Here are five of those tips:

#1 Power Saving Mode on your iPhone

The easiest option is one that practically blows your iPhone through your nose: power-saving mode. Within iOS 16, the functionality can of course also be used as standard. Once your battery has only 20% charge, the iPhone will give you a pop-up asking if you want to enable the mode.

As soon as you do that, certain functionalities are disabled, the brightness of the screen decreases and you get more out of the battery. Prefer to turn it on yourself? Then bring up the control panel (swipe the top right corner to the middle) and press the icon with the battery.

#2 iOS 16: keep your location to yourself as much as possible

Sharing your location can be useful for many applications and functionalities. Also within iOS 16. Although this is a part of your iPhone that demands a lot from the battery. Therefore, it is useful to limit its use as much as possible.

You do this by going to Settings to go and Privacy and Security to select. Then go to Location Services and determine which app really needs your location and which can do just fine without it. If you really want to do it right, you can also block all access by moving the slider to the left.

#3 Fewer widgets on your iPhone

As with its predecessor, it is also possible within iOS 16 to provide the iPhone with widgets. It gives you a little more freedom over exactly how your phone’s home screen looks. Ideal, but it does eat up quite a bit of battery.

Therefore, make sure that the iPhone is only equipped with the widgets that you really use often. To remove a widget, press and hold it and choose Remove widget.

#4 iOS 16: fewer apps in the background

You may not realize it, but applications are incredibly busy in the background. For example, the data of these apps is refreshed, which can have quite an impact on the battery life of your iPhone. Fortunately, this is easy to turn off.

Go to Settings, select General and go to Refresh in background. Press again Refresh in background and then select the option Out.

#5 Optimize charging

Okay, the next tip is one for the future. For example, anyone who has bought an iPhone 14 Pro wants to spend a long time with their smartphone. Then it is useful that the battery remains in the best possible condition. Optimized charging is a function that will help you with that.

To limit the aging process of the battery, iPhone learns your daily charging routine so that it only charges beyond 80% when you need your iPhone.

Want to enable the feature in iOS 16? Then go to Settings-> Battery -> Battery Health -> Optimized Charging. Move the green slider next to the functionality to the right to activate it. The chance that the function is already enabled is quite high (default), but it is always important to check this carefully.
