Save internet data with this new feature in iOS 13

A handy, but small addition in iOS 13 is the data saving mode. This way you switch on data saving mode for mobile internet and WiFi networks.

Enable data saving mode on iOS 13: this is how you save data

After switching on, your iPhone uses less data, whether you’re on the road or at home. The way in which you activate the function differs per connection.

Here’s how to enable data saving mode for mobile data:

  1. Open the Settings and tap on ‘Mobile network’;
  2. Select ‘Mobile data options’;
  3. Slide the switch at ‘Data Saver Mode’ so that the box turns green.

From now on, your iPhone uses less data on the go. You should notice this at the end of the month on your internet bundle, because there are more MBs in it. The data saver mode works for all apps, so you cannot give individual programs an exception.

Enable data saver mode for Wi-Fi networks

Is the Wi-Fi connection of your school, holiday address or workplace slow? Even then it is wise to activate the function. You will then use less of the network, which will (hopefully) make the connection faster.

This is how you turn on the data saving mode for WiFi networks:

  1. Open the Settings app and go to ‘WiFi’;
  2. Tap the network you want to enable mode for and log in if you haven’t already. If you are already connected, tap the information symbol to the right of the network;
  3. Slide the switch for ‘Data Saver Mode’ so that the box turns green.

You probably don’t need this feature when you’re connected to your home Wi-Fi network, but it comes in handy on vacation or on a plane. After all, in such cases you are sometimes stuck with a data limit, or you pay per mb. Read all about more of these small iOS 13 functions in our overview, or watch the video review below:
