A case on your phone or tablet is a good way to limit scratches on the screen, but sometimes you can’t avoid a small scratch. What are you doing then? We give 5 tips to reduce scratches on the screen.
1. Warm soapy water
Before you try any of the following tips, it’s a good idea to take some basic steps first. For example, use a soft, lint-free cloth, such as a lens cloth, to wipe the screen. If this doesn’t work to get rid of a scratch, you can wet the cloth a little with warm soapy water. Then rub the cloth over the screen. This is a tip that Apple gives, for example, when the screen is scratched. Make sure that no moisture penetrates into the housing of your smartphone or tablet.
2. Wonder Eraser
“Looks like a sponge, magically cleans”, if we are to believe the Wondergum label. However, don’t expect miracles from the eraser, but you can remove small scratches with it. Erase the screen gently and you will see immediate results. You can also try a normal rubber eraser first before purchasing a miracle eraser. You can buy the wonder eraser in the supermarket or online, for example at Bol.com†
3. Toothpaste
With toothpaste you can not only clean your teeth, but also your screen. Note: use a white toothpaste, preferably with baking soda, but never a gel toothpaste. This tip also works best if you have a screen protector on your phone.
Squeeze a blob of toothpaste the size of your little finger onto a microfiber cloth and rub the area in circular motions for half a minute. Repeat if the scratch is still not gone.
4. Baking or baby powder
Instead of toothpaste, you can also use a mixture of baking or baby powder. Mix 2/3 baking or baby powder with 1/3 water. Stir until you get a thick paste, then put a small dollop on a clean, dry cloth. Rub the area again and then remove the residue from the screen with a slightly damp cloth.
5. Wax Products
Wax products, such as Turtle Wax, or other (vegetable) oils are also a good way to remove scratches on your screen. However, we must immediately place a strong warning with this tip: do not use oils if your touchscreen has an oleophobic coating. If you do this, a wax product will have the opposite effect and will only make the scratches on your screen worse. Since the iPhone 7, all Apple phones have such an oil-resistant coating, so the screens of these smartphones are not resistant to wax products.
