Search here-button in the Apple cards

Since iOS 18, the Apple’s card app has received a new handy search button. This ‘search here’ button makes it possible to perform a search query in another area.

For example, are you looking for a museum in a city, you open the map app and type in the ‘Museum’ search field. After this you will see an overview of all museums in your immediate area.

When you then zoom in or out on the map to enlarge or reduce the area, the ‘Search here’ button appears at the bottom of the map view. By tapping this button, the search query is performed again, but then in the area that is visible on the map at that time. This means you don’t have to perform the search again.

Of course you can use the search in combination with various search terms such as museum, hotel, restaurant, cinema etc.

When you were looking for something in Apple Maps in earlier iOS versions and then moved the card, the app tried to follow you and show your results while moving over the card. In iOS 18 that behavior is also still present, but the new button ‘Search here’ responds and shows the results faster. The new button has not been added (yet) in the map app under MacOS Sequoia.

More new functions in the map app

Since iOS 18, iPados 18 and macOS Sequoia you can make personalized walking routes in the map app and save offline. Step by step, path by path, you can put together and walk your route point by point.

In the United States and Japan you can even find and walk pre -programmed walking routes, outside of that you have to get started yourself. The personalized walking routes can be set out completely yourself, so that you can take a perfect walk based on the available (walking) paths in the map app for iPhone, iPad.
