What are you going to play this month? You can get started with the prequel to the emotional Life is Strange and the latest installment in the Cube Escape series. Cube Escape: Paradox does it slightly different than previous editions, because it includes a short film. In addition, this time we have selected three more puzzle games, but they are completely different from each other.
1. Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Before Max Caulfield got the superpower to turn back time in Life is Strange, a lot of other things happened in the village of Arcadia Bay. Especially with Chloe Price and her friendship with the popular Rachel Amber. That’s what Life is Strange: Before the Storm is all about.
Although this game was not made by the creators of Life is Strange, the separate episodes play the same. You control Chloe and make choices for her in the story. This time no super powers, but again a very emotional story in which you learn more about the background of the rebel with the blue hair.
At the moment only the first episode is for sale. For the rest you still have to be patient.
2. Cube Escape: Paradox
With the tenth Cube Escape game from Dutch maker Rusty Lake, something special had to be done. That’s why Cube Escape: Paradox includes a short film. You can watch this film in its entirety below. Then dive into the game, in which you wake up as Detective Dale Vandermeer in a strange room without your memory. Your goal is to escape that room through puzzles and get your memories back.
3. Alphabear 2
You have to be good at English in the Alphabear games. Your goal is to make as long words as possible with the letters on the playing field. A successful word makes all letters in that word disappear from the field and the bears get bigger. The bigger the bears, the higher the score. Add in a ton of puns and you have a puzzle game that you really should try.
4. Valleys Between
In Valleys Between you control nature. You determine whether water and grass appear somewhere, whether trees grow and whether animals can achieve their goal. It is a beautiful and relaxing puzzle game that makes players more aware of the environment. Because if you plant too much, houses will appear and nature will have less space. Your goal is to keep the world growing for as long as possible. To make that extra challenging, you get varying goals to complete.
5. Shi Ro
Lover of Japanese culture? Then you need to check Shi Ro. In this special game you have to solve original puzzles that are a bit difficult to explain. The idea is that you have to make routes between moons to make their drops disappear into the sea. When you play, it automatically becomes clear what the intention is.
The puzzles are really nice, but it’s the presentation that really makes Shi Ro stand out. Everything is packaged as a beautifully decorated lacquer box, which you turn around to discover more. Each puzzle unlocks a Japanese word and you gradually learn a story about an empress who must separate the sea from the sky.
