Set up WhatsApp on iPhone

Send messages, photos and videos to other people via WhatsApp using the app.

With the whatsapp app on the smartphone, people can send each other messages and call via the internet connection. Users therefore do not pay per call or message, but for the so-called data traffic. Set up WhatsApp like this for the first use:

  • Open the WhatsApp app.
  • WhatsApp wants access to your contacts. Tap on OK.
  • Then comes the question of whether WhatsApp can send messages, such as notifications. Tap on Allow.
  • Open the terms and conditions. You can only use WhatsApp if you agree to it. Tap on Agree & continue.
  • WhatsApp is linked to a phone number. Enter your phone number.
  • Tap on Ready.
  • WhatsApp asks if the entered phone number is correct. If not, tap Change. If the phone number is correct, tap Yes.
  • A text message with code will be sent to your phone number. Open the SMS and enter the code on WhatsApp.
  • Tap on Your name (for notifications) and type your name.
  • Add a photo if necessary.
    • Tap on add photo.
    • Tap on take photo or Choose photo.
    • WhatsApp may request access to your photos. Tap on OK.
    • Tap the desired photo.
    • Tap on Choose.
  • Tap on Ready.

You can now use WhatsApp. You can start a conversation with contacts who also have WhatsApp installed on their phone. Read how the messaging app works in the article ‘Using WhatsApp on iPhone’.
