Enjoy a Wi-Fi connection at home or on the go by setting up an available network on your Android device.
Internet via Wi-Fi
Wifi at home or on the road is very handy. This allows you to use the internet without having to use a separate internet subscription for the tablet or smartphone.
Safety
You will find unsecured networks in some public places. For example, in certain NS intercity trains. But often Wi-Fi networks are secured. You will then need a password to connect. But watch out! Also public networks that require a password are not secure. Never work with confidential information on public networks. Do not log in to, for example, your bank or your e-mail. You can do that on your own WiFi network at home. Read more about this in the article ‘Safe internet on the go’.
Make a connection
Connect an Android device to a Wi-Fi network as follows:
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on Connections and then on WiFi.
- If necessary, drag the bar behind ‘On’ to the right so that the slider turns blue.
- Wifi is on and an overview opens of the networks that are within your range. Tap the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to.
- Optionally, enter the Wi-Fi password, then tap To connect.
After some time, the text ‘Connected’ appears under the name of the network. This means that you are connected to the Wi-Fi network and can use the internet. The device also remembers this network. So the next time you are near the network, it will connect automatically if Wi-Fi is on.
