Netflix has become indispensable in many households, through the streaming service you can binge watch hours of series and watch films to your heart’s content. You can share a Netflix account with multiple people, for example from the same family.
By using different profiles, each family member can create their own streaming environment. You must take the Netflix subscription into account. There are several versions available and depending on the subscription, you can watch Netflix with several people at the same time, and you can also add additional members to your account.
Share Netflix account with others
If you want to use Netflix and share it with multiple people, it is advisable to follow the following advice. It’s okay to share your Netflix account with family members who live at the same address, but it’s not recommended to share the account with friends.

The streaming service reports that you are not supposed to share your account with multiple people who do not live at the same address. Yet this is done frequently. Netflix can limit the number of IP addresses per account, making it more difficult to share your account. If Netflix suspects abuse, a warning may be displayed and the next step is to block the account.
The American video service will only check accounts that exhibit strange streaming behavior, for example when four different IP addresses are streaming simultaneously.
Add additional members to Netflix
Account owners can purchase an additional member spot and invite people outside their household to use Netflix. Additional members have their own profile, account and password, but their membership is paid for by the person who invited them to join. You can read what the conditions are and how this works exactly in the highlighted article below.
Use Netflix on multiple devices
Your Netflix account can be used on an unlimited number of devices, depending on your subscription you can watch on 1, 2 or 4 screens at the same time. By using profiles you can watch with multiple people at the same time.
Different subscriptions and sharing option
You can take out a basic, standard or premium Netflix subscription. How Netflix profiles work
If you want to use Netflix with multiple people, it is recommended to use profiles. By using different profiles, you ensure that every member has a personal environment. This means that the viewing history is stored separately and each member can also compile their own viewing list. In addition, the suggestions are tailored to the ratings and viewing behavior per profile and are not influenced by other members.
Netflix profile for kids
The profiles consist of two variants: normal and for children. Where you have access to the full content with the normal variant, you can limit the content via a child profile. Based on age, only films and series that are suitable for this age are shown. You can also block specific Netflix series and films.
Create and edit Netflix profile
Netflix profiles can be created in different locations and are synchronized with all your devices. You can create and change profiles in all Netflix apps. Because this differs per device, it is difficult to make a step-by-step plan. Fortunately, the Netflix website is universal and you can also use it to create or edit profiles.
- Open the Netflix website
- Log in with your account
- Click on your avatar at the top
- Choose ‘Manage profiles’

Click ‘Add Profile’ to create a new member or click on an existing profile to edit it. This way you can impose a restriction, change playback behavior or delete the profile.
Change Netflix subscription
Is your Netflix subscription not suitable for multiple people to watch at the same time? Then you can easily adjust your subscription. Open the Netflix website and click on your avatar in the menu bar. Select ‘Account’ and click on ‘Change subscription’.
Profile transfer and create new account
The Profile Transfer feature allows people who are part of your account to transfer a profile (including recommendations, watch history, My List, settings and saved games, including progress) to their own paid subscription. This way you can immediately continue watching as soon as you have started a new account. Handy if you have already binge-watched a lot of series.

The transfer function will mainly be used by people who currently share a Netflix account, for example families or friends. Netflix itself indicates that families are expanding. People move. Relationships change. Things happen, and profile transfers can help make creating a new account easier. You can read how to transfer a profile to a new account in the highlighted article below.
