Share the route and progress of your trip via Google Maps

By sharing your route and progress via Google Maps, others know exactly what time you will arrive and where you are now. This way you can focus on the road and still keep others informed.

Share your Google Maps progress

Google Maps is one of the most popular apps to get from A to B. A feature that many people don’t know about is that you can keep others informed about your journey while navigating. This way, friends, acquaintances and family can see your current location and estimated arrival time.

The nice thing about this function is that you only have to activate it at the start of your journey, after which you have your hands free. After all, while driving you don’t have time to let others know how things are going. This is how you share the progress of your trip in Google Maps:

  1. Open Google Maps on your iPhone;
  2. Search for your destination and start navigation by tapping the blue button at the bottom right;
  3. Move the menu from the bottom of the screen to the top;
  4. Select ‘Share journey progress’;
  5. In the new screen, choose the contacts or apps with which you want to share your progress.

Recipients will be sent a link with which they open a card with an icon of your head. There they also see the route you take, what time you expect to arrive and even how much battery your iPhone has left.

For on location: poll function

Once you arrive at your location, Google Maps also has a handy function for deciding what to do together. This can be done by making a list and then adding a poll. Ideal for choosing a restaurant. Read how to use the poll function in Google Maps.
