Share your iPhone screen via WhatsApp with other iPhone and Android users

With the help of FaceTime it was already possible to share the screen of your iPhone, iPad or Mac with other Apple users. As you read, this is limited to Apple, but that has now changed. You can also share your iPhone screen with other iPhone and Android users via WhatsApp.

This way you can easily share the entire view of your display via the popular chat app. This requires that you use WhatsApp version 2.23.14.82 or newer and meet a number of conditions. We explain how it works.

Share screen via WhatsApp

By video calling someone you can discuss something in an accessible way. If you want to make this even clearer, it may be interesting to share the entire screen of your iPhone. This way the recipient can see exactly what you do and what you mean.

Screen sharing had already been added to FaceTime by Apple and since version 2.23.14.82 you can also do this using WhatsApp. This not only allows you to share the screen from iPhone to iPhone, but also from iPhone to Android and vice versa.

WhatsApp screen sharing conditions

  • WhatsApp version 2.23.14.82 or newer required
  • Available for one-on-one and group conversations
  • Screen sharing is only possible after starting a video call
  • Full screen content is shared, including notifications
  • Protected content such as DRM videos cannot be shared

Start WhatsApp screen sharing

  • Start a WhatsApp video call with the person or group
  • Tap the doll display icon at the bottom of the screen
  • Select ‘Start broadcast’
  • Screen sharing starts

Once you have established the connection, you can leave WhatsApp, but not close it completely. The group or conversation partner can see the entire contents of the screen. It is advisable to hide notifications with a focus, for example do not disturb. To stop screen sharing, return to the WhatsApp video call and tap Stop Sharing, end the video call, or exit WhatsApp completely.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to share your screen from the WhatsApp desktop app. For now, screen sharing only works from a smartphone.
