Sometimes Windows 10 or Windows 11 asks users if they can reboot the system. But after booting, little seems to have changed. It happens that the system did not actually shut down completely during the reboot. Fortunately, this can be remedied quickly.
The problem is in an option called Quick Boot† With this option, your computer will start up faster when you “turn it off”. In fact, you don’t switch off the system completely. Instead, you put the system into a kind of short-lived hibernation.
The state of the system is stored in the working memory of the computer. As a result, the system boots faster when you turn on the computer again. A handy function for daily use, but less useful if you just want to turn off your computer completely.
Fortunately, we can quickly fix this with a few settings. But we can imagine that not everyone can find that attitude. He’s pretty well hidden. And if you don’t know where to look, things can get tricky.
An important caveat here is that Fast Startup is not available for every PC. If you find out after reading this article that you don’t see the option, your PC will switch off completely after shutting down. Also, when you restart your computer, using the button in the Start menu, you bypass Fast Startup.
Disable fast startup Windows 10 and 11
To disable Fast Startup, open it Control Panel† Open start, type Control Panel and press Enter. Go to Hardware and Sound and press Power management on the button Changing the behavior of the power buttons†
- Click now Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Now check the options below Shutdown Settings
- Here should be the option Enable fast startup (recommended) stand
- Is it not there? Then the option is not available
- If it is there, remove the check mark (if it is there)
From this moment on, the PC will turn off completely when you select the Switch off selects. So the computer does not go into a kind of hibernation and the system gets a fresh start when you turn the computer back on. You achieve the same thing by selecting the Restart option from the Start menu; nevertheless, it is still nice to know what your computer is up to when you perform a specific action.
