Silently calling emergency services from an iPhone

When you are in need, you can easily call the emergency services via your iPhone. This can be done with the SOS emergency notification option and can be activated by holding down a volume button and the side button. If you use this function, an alarm will sound before the emergency services are called. You can disable this.

By turning off the alarm and sound signals, you can call the emergency services silently. Of course, we hope you never have to use this function, but it does have advantages. For example, are you in a dire situation where you would like to call 112 without being noticed? Then silent calling is a solution.

Enable silent calling for emergency services

  • Open Settings
  • Navigate to ‘SOS Emergency’
  • Disable the ‘Call by pressing and holding’ and ‘Call by pressing five times’ options
  • Scroll down and enable the ‘Call Silent’ option

112 silent call

Once you have enabled the option, you can silently call the emergency services in two ways. If you continuously press the side button and either volume button, a countdown will start. After the countdown, the emergency services will be called immediately. In addition, you can also call 112 by quickly pressing the side button five times in succession, a countdown will start and then the emergency services will be called immediately.

In either case, no warning lights, LED flashes, or VoiceOver audio will start to alert you that emergency services are being called.
