Apple would introduce its own Siri app with iOS 27 during WWDC 2026, according to a recent report from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. This marks an important step in Siri’s transformation into a standalone AI assistant, independent of the built-in voice function. This allows Siri to function more like a chatbot, similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini.
The standalone app would finally give Siri a clear, dedicated place on the home screen of iPhone, iPad and Mac. This fits seamlessly with Apple’s broader AI strategy, with Siri evolving from a simple voice assistant to a powerful chatbot with deeper integration into the system. Users will be able to more easily consult Siri for complex tasks without having to say “Hey Siri” every time.
Extensive functionalities of the Siri app
The Siri app shows conversations in an organized list or grid view with previews, similar to popular messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messages. Both text and speech input are supported, with a focus on natural conversations. On iPhones with Dynamic Island, Siri gets a permanent “Ask Siri” notification at the top, including a glowing icon during processing and a flip-out Liquid Glass panel for quick answers.

These improvements build on the recent Siri upgrades in iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence, but also provide a fresh, modern interface. Apple has been testing this setup internally for months, using advanced models like Google Gemini to improve performance. For Mac users, a similar app will be available in macOS 27, integrated into the Dock.
System-wide Siri integration
In addition to the app, Apple is testing an “Ask Siri” toggle that will appear throughout iOS 27, which will let you send selected text, images or content directly to Siri for analysis or actions. This includes highlighting a recipe in Safari and having Siri explain how to make it. There will also be a ‘Write with Siri’ button above the keyboard for real-time text assistance, ideal for emails or notes.
Apple Intelligence for Siri postponed
At WWDC 2024, Apple announced a major AI breakthrough for Siri, making the assistant smarter, more personal, and more context-aware. The intention was to launch these improvements as early as autumn 2025, together with the iPhone 16 series.
In practice, however, the technical challenge turned out to be greater than expected. Apple was working on two different Siri architectures: one stable but limited in capabilities, and one more advanced but not yet reliable enough for millions of users. Combining these systems led to instability, causing Siri to malfunction up to a third of the time.

Craig Federighi, head of software at Apple, indicated that it will take more time to make the new Siri reliable. Initially, the release was postponed to the spring of 2026, but this will probably not be until the end of 2026 together with iOS 27, with the aim that Siri will then really be ready for large-scale use. This should make Siri more competitive against rivals such as Google Assistant and Grok, while Apple prioritizes privacy with on-device processing where possible.
AI features for Siri listed
Apple Intelligence for Siri promises to be a major breakthrough for the voice assistant, but what exactly are we waiting for? Siri’s upgrade includes a number of groundbreaking features:
- Personal results: Siri will soon be able to use personal information, such as emails, calendars and messages, to provide contextual responses. For example, if you ask “When does my mother’s flight land?”, Siri will search your messages for flight information and then check the current status online.
- Insight into what is on your screen: Siri can ultimately understand what’s on your iPhone or iPad screen. This allows you, for example, to ask questions about information you are currently seeing, or to perform actions based on the content shown.
- In-app actions: Siri gets deeper integration with apps, allowing you to perform complex tasks without manually operating the app. Think of editing a photo, booking an appointment, or performing actions within apps based on the context.

Context and expectations for WWDC 2026
WWDC 2026 kicks off on June 8, with the official announcement of iOS 27, macOS 27, and related updates. The new Siri is rumored to be part of a large-scale AI push, including an improved Shortcuts app and Apple Intelligence tools. The software updates, including Siri chatbot, AI adjustments and more, are expected in the fall of 2026.
