Snapchat is rolling out three new ‘Lenses’, which use the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X to put masks on your face in a much more realistic way. This makes it one of the first major apps to apply the technology in this way.
Snapchat iPhone X Lenses
During the iPhone event in September, the new lenses were already shown by Apple CEO Craig Federighi. He then showed that the TrueDepth camera, which collects a lot of facial data, can be used to put the masks on your face. That looks a lot more realistic than previous Snapchat masks.
You can see that difference mainly because masks are closer to your face and take the ambient light into account. Also, the iPhone’s TrueDepth camera is applied by the background one blureffect. That is a bit reminiscent of the Portrait mode of the latest iPhones, with which the background is blurred, while the foreground is very sharp.
The three new lenses are logically only available to users of the iPhone X. The TrueDepth camera is likely to come to several new iPhones this year. The new iPad Pro, which we may see later this year, would also have the TrueDepth and Face ID technology.
More new features for Snapchat
This week, another cool feature was added to Snapchat. It is now possible to set up group video calls, with which you can add up to 15 of your friends to a conversation. All your friends (or family members) will then appear on the screen at the same time, causing the necessary chaos. If you opt for an audio call, this is possible with a maximum of 32 people. Check the article below to learn how to use the feature.
