Snapchat Reminders: Everything You Need to Know

Thanks to the arrival of Snapchat Memories, it is possible to share photos from the Photos app and you can review your favorite snaps. In this article we explain how the function works exactly.

Snapchat Memories has been part of Snapchat for a while now. The function has changed quite a bit in the way the app works. To find out more about it, read on.

What exactly is Reminders?

Reminders is one of the newest Snapchat features. While the app has always been about moments and not about long-term capture, things have changed with Memories. This allows you to save your own snaps to view them again later. That does not happen automatically, you have to allow that yourself.

You can open the Reminders on Snapchat via a new icon. You can find it under the record button. The round button with a preview of one of your older snaps takes you to the Memories screen. It is also possible to swipe up in the camera screen.

That’s how Snapchat Reminders are organized

When you open the Memories, you will immediately see older snaps that you have taken. There are several tabs at the top of the screen. This allows you to switch between snaps, stories and photos that are in the Photos app. You can switch between the screens by tapping the tabs or sliding left and right.

Share an old snap or photo on Snapchat

How you save a snap hasn’t changed. If you have taken a photo or video, press the icon with an arrow down at the bottom of the screen. It will then be added to the Memories. Snaps that you save as a story can be saved later in the same way.

To reshare an old snap, photo or video via Snapchat, do the following:

  1. Open Snapchat;
  2. Open Reminders;
  3. Press and hold your finger on the snap, story, photo or video you want to share;
  4. You can still edit via the pencil icon at the bottom left of the screen;
  5. When you are done, tap the blue send button;
  6. Now choose the people you want to share with or add the snap to your story.

Previously, when you saved a snap, it ended up directly in your Photos app. That is no longer the case. But you can still save memories in your gallery or share on another social network. That is how it works:

  1. Open Snapchat;
  2. Go to Reminders;
  3. Tap on the snap you want to save and hold;
  4. Tap the gray bar at the top with ‘My Snap’;
  5. Choose ‘Export Snap’;
  6. Share your snap wherever you want.

It is also possible to insert the snap into a story via this menu. You can also move the snap to ‘Only for me’. That’s a window in the Memories screen that displays snaps that only you can see. To do this, you must set a special number combination that applies as your password.
