Snapdrop lets you easily transfer files between iOS and OS X

Snapdrop is a new alternative to AirDrop, Apple’s file sharing service between iOS and OS X devices. AirDrop works via Bluetooth and WiFi and is especially useful if you want to send large files. However, the service does not always work well and not on all devices.

In that case, Snapdrop offers a solution. This service links Apple devices via a website. To use Snapdrop, you just need to go to the same webpage on your Mac and iPhone. Below we explain it step by step.

  1. On both your Mac and iPhone, go to the official website of Snapdrop;
  2. Wait for both devices to find each other, which is shown on the screen;
  3. To share, tap or click the device and select a file. That will be sent immediately.

Where you just choose a file in the Finder on the Mac, you have several options on the iPhone. For example, you can choose a photo from the Photo Library or shoot one immediately. Conveniently, iCloud Drive, Apple’s cloud storage service, is also supported.

If you tap ‘More’, you can link additional apps such as Dropbox to use with Snapdrop. In the bar at the top you can see the progress and you will receive a confirmation when the file has been sent.
