Thanks to notifications on your iPhone and iPad, you stay informed and are immediately alerted to new messages. However, you may no longer receive notifications from an app or on your device as a whole.
This is annoying because it can cause you to miss important messages, calls or notifications, which means you may not respond in a timely manner. Fortunately, there are several solutions you can try to get notifications on your iPhone or iPad again.
No more notifications on iPhone or iPad
We are used to receiving various notifications from apps during the day, but it may be that due to a problem the notification function no longer works properly. The cause could be the app, a setting or your device. We list some solutions so that you can receive notifications on your iPhone or iPad again.
Problems with app
The application may have problems sending notifications. For example, the necessary certificates may have expired internally or you still have to give permission for sending notifications.
- Have you just installed the app or restored a backup? Then open the app again and sign up for the notifications
- Check the notification settings in the app itself, you may no longer be logged in
- Reinstall the application and open it to allow notifications
Check notification settings
The Notifications settings may not be correct. This can be specific to an app or just for the entire function. Follow the steps below to check this.
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Go to ‘Notifications’
- Tap an app in the list
Check the settings of the app, below we briefly explain the different parts.
- Allow reporting: Disable to stop receiving notifications from this app
- Notifications: The notification style and behavior
- Strip style: Whether a message should appear temporarily or permanently
- Sounds: Turn the notification sound on or off
- Badges: Red dot with a number next to the app that indicates the unread notifications
- Show preview: Show contents of notifications
- Group notifications: Group notifications from apps or topics
In addition, it is also important that you check whether the overall notification settings are active. To do this, go to Settings â–¸ Notifications.
Planned overview
You may use the planned overview. The notification overview contains all notifications that you do not want to receive immediately. The overview is organized by priority, with the most important notifications at the top.
When you enable this option and add an app, you will no longer receive the notifications directly, but in the overview. Since the overview appears x number of times a day, you will only see these notifications when the summary is displayed. It is therefore best to enable the scheduled overview for apps for which you do not want to receive notifications immediately. For example, new content at Disney+, notifications from a shopping app, etc.
Check the settings in the notification overview and disable the function or apps so that you immediately receive notifications instead of the overview.
Notifications temporarily disabled
You may have temporarily disabled notifications for your iPhone or iPad, check the settings below that may be preventing you from receiving notifications.
- A focus such as Do Not Disturb is enabled
- You are not connected to the internet
- Your iPhone or iPad is in silent mode (no sound on)
Restart and restore
If you have tried the above solutions, but you are still not receiving any notifications. Then it is best to force restart your iPhone or iPad. We explain how to do this step by step in this article. If this does not help, you can still restore your device to factory settings.
