Despite the low darkness, an astronaut on board the international space station happens amazingly. Because each of the many lights that illuminate Myanmar, Thailand and Laos on a moonless night tells their own story. At first there would be the unmistakable bluish lights below in the picture: a large -scale thunderstorm with bright flashes that rages over Myanmar’s largest city. Such a sight is typical of the monsoons in Southeast Asia.
A few green -glowing points can be seen directly in front of the twitching flashes. They belong to fishing boats near the storm that attract plankton and fish with the light green light. The horizon also appears as a greenish strip – a kind of dividing line between the darkness of space and the country below. The weak light is created in higher atmospheric layers, where gas molecules are stimulated to light up by the UV radiation of the sun that is already under the horizon. One also speaks of the so -called night sky lights.
The artificial light of the cities also illuminates parts of the landscape. It comes from the big cities of Chiang Mai and Phitsanulok in the central flusal valley of Thailand, where the chao Phraya flows. Beyond this urban light, the darkness points to the landscapes of rural Thailand with only a few light sources dominated by rainforest and fields.
