Do you have a subscription to Spotify? Then we have good news, because Spotify has added audio books to the music service. That’s how much it costs.
Spotify comes with audio books
Spotify has a new feature, because the music service has introduced audio books in the app. Next to the tabs Everything, Music, Podcasts you now also have a choice Audiobooks. These are books in all categories, so you can choose from fiction, thriller, romance, self-help, but there are also scientific literature pieces available. Do you prefer to listen in English? Then you can also choose English audio books in Spotify. You can find the audiobooks as follows:
- Open ‘Spotify’ on your iPhone or iPad;
- Tap the ‘Search’ tab below the screen;
- Choose ‘Audiobooks’;
- Finally, select the audiobook of your choice.
Spotify users get access to no fewer than 15,000 Dutch audiobooks. The new feature is also being rolled out in France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Subscribers in these countries can listen to more than 200,000 audiobooks via Spotify. Unfortunately, this does not apply to everyone, because you need a paid subscription to play the audio books.
Audiobooks paid feature
The audiobooks are only available to users with a Premium Individual, Premium Family or Premium Duo Spotify subscription. That means Student Premium subscribers will have to make do without the audiobooks. All other paid plans give the administrator 12 hours of listening time per month to play audiobooks. Have you used these hours? Then you can buy more time.
Unfortunately, this is not free, for every 10 hours of additional listening time you pay no less than 9.99 euros. This is probably not enough for avid listeners, so you can purchase unlimited additional listening time. You pay this price on top of Spotify’s normal subscription price. Do you have any additional purchased hours for audiobooks left on Spotify? Then you carry that time over to the next month. This does not apply to the standard 12 hours of listening time that every paying subscriber gets.
Cheaper alternatives
Spotify has now rolled out the new feature, so you can search for your favorite (audio)books in the app. There it is possible to search for writers or the title of the book. Don’t know yet which book you want to listen to? Then Spotify also offers you the option to search for new audiobooks by category. After listening to a book, you can mark the title as completed to get an overview of all your audiobooks.
Chances are that 12 hours a month is not enough to play all your favorite audiobooks via Spotify.
