You probably don’t want to believe it yet, but schools have started again. Start your year off right with our selection of the best school apps for your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The best school apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac
Your iPhone, iPad or Mac(Book) is your best friend when it comes to studying, although you do need to install the right apps for this. The App Store is full of so-called “study apps,” but only a few are worth installing. Get the following school apps on your iOS device and you’re sure to be ready to put your gray matter to work for another year.
1. Microsoft OneNote
If you plan to collect all the notes from your courses in one app, then Microsoft OneNote is the best choice in our opinion. The app is free to use and syncs your notes across your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Windows devices. This way you can quickly jot down something on your iPad during a lecture and then read it again at your convenience on your Mac at home.
You create different tabs in OneNote, so that the app also remains well-organized if you include multiple subjects. This changes OneNote into a kind of digital binder, which can be consulted on any device. Plus, the options while taking notes are similar to the ones you have in Word, which is more than enough for most people.
2.Things 3
To-do list apps come in all shapes and sizes, but if you really want an app that you can enjoy throughout your studies, it’s Things 3. This (pricey) app is the to-do app of the to-do apps. With a clear design, smart integrations in the iOS calendar, synchronization and layout, you can store all your to do’s here. Regardless of whether they are relevant for now or whether you want to do them again someday. The only obstacle is the high price, and the fact that you have to buy the app separately on both the iPad, iPhone and Mac.
3. Scannable
More and more studies are completely digital, but there is a good chance that sooner or later you will come across a printed piece of paper that you have to keep. Save yourself the trouble of stuffing it in your bag and scan it in with Scannable. The free app recognizes the paper and then automatically scans it, after which its readability is improved. In this way you always have the form in your pocket and it is not a problem that there is a crease / tear in the sheet.
4. iA Writer
In our Eyeballs section we already discussed that iA Writer is, in our opinion, the ultimate app for working out a text in a concentrated way. The app has a minimalistic design, so you won’t be distracted. In addition, everything is synced to the cloud, giving you automatic access to all your documents on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. The dark mode also gives your eyes a rest if you still have to work on your essay in the middle of the night. Nice detail: the entire editorial staff first writes all articles on iPhoned in iA Writer.
5. Google Keep
Keeping your notes in an organized way is quite a task, especially if you have to bundle photos, to-do lists and quick writings. Google Keep brings order to this chaos with a well-organized app where you can store all these different kinds of notes.
A handy extra is that you can link different people to a note, so that you work on the same document at the same time. Useful for a task list where each group member can individually check off which parts of the project have already been completed. This info is then automatically synced across all other members’ iPhones.
6. Photomath
It almost sounds too good to be true: an app that does all the math for you. Photomath proves that it is possible: simply point your iPhone at a page with calculations and the app automatically gives you the correct result. The app has trouble reading handwriting, so in that case you will have to use the keyboard. However, for digital or printed calculations the app works excellent and very fast. You will learn little from it if you do all your homework with this, but as an emergency, this is not an unnecessary luxury.
7. iStudiez Pro
One of the most popular school apps has been iStudiez Pro for years. The app has just about everything you can expect from a modern agenda. You can easily import your data from Apple’s Calendar or Google Calendar, as well as grade lists, teacher and class summaries, and more. There is also a handy Apple Watch app, so you know where to go and what appointments you have with a glance at your wrist.
8. Sleep Cycle
A good night’s sleep is important if you want to concentrate, and that is exactly where Sleep Cycle helps. The app analyzes your sleep based on your movement and sound and assesses your sleep quality every morning. This way you will know after a while on which days of the week you are most active, and when it might be wise to go to bed a few hours earlier. In addition, Sleep Cycle has a smart alarm clock, which wakes you up at the best time.
9. Google Drive
Google Drive is an ideal tool if you are working on a project with a group. You can easily upload your documents to it, so that you can access it on any device. Even if you’re working on files alone, it’s a handy way to make sure your essays and other documents are stored securely. This way you always have a backup if something goes wrong with your MacBook or iPad.
10. Forest
If you have trouble concentrating, you should give Forest a try. This app links a game element to your study sessions, so that you (hopefully) stay focused for longer. Every time you start studying, you plant a tree that will continue to grow until you pick up your iPhone again. In this way, over time you will create a whole forest with smaller and (hopefully) larger trees, while you can see in a table how concentrated you have been working recently.
11. Spark Mail
With all the e-mails from lecturers, fellow students and administration of your study, it is not a question of if but when your mailbox will be overflowing with messages. Get ahead of this mess in your inbox and switch to Spark Mail. This smart mail app makes it easy to keep your inbox tidy so that only the things that are important to you demand your attention. The app supports almost all popular mail services, so it takes little effort to transfer your account to Spark.
12. Google Slides
You can put together a beautiful presentation with many apps, but none is as easy and widely available as Google Slides. Regardless of which computer, tablet or smartphone you use, just logging in or opening a link is enough to start your presentation. In addition, Google Slides is completely free, the functions are extensive and you can collaborate with others.
13.Audio Note 2
Do you find out during your learning that you no longer understand the notes you took during a lecture or class? AudioNote 2 cleverly combines audio recordings and notes, so you’ll never stare distraught at your scribbles from class again. For example, record your lecture, while making additional notes with the lecturer’s explanation.
The recording automatically adjusts to the size of the room and filters out background noise. In the notes you can highlight words with colors or add bullet points. Math class? It is also possible to draw and place fixed shapes such as triangles.
