Step-by-step plan: this is how you install iOS 10 on your iPhone and iPad

The public beta of iOS 10 has been available since last night. This allows you to test the new operating system, but you will not just get it on your iOS device. In this article we show you which steps you have to go through.

Install the iOS 10 beta in 7 steps

After developers have already been able to get started with iOS 10 extensively in recent weeks, the new iOS version can now also be installed by users. Handy, because that way you can test the operating system extensively and become familiar with the new functions before the official release takes place later this year.

Keep in mind that installing the iOS 10 beta is at your own risk. Test versions are often still full of bugs, which can cause problems. With iOS 10, that seems to be not too bad, since the software already works smoothly and stable. Nevertheless, before following the steps below, we recommend that you save important data and settings from your iOS device. This can be done by making an iTunes backup or a backup via iCloud.

  1. With the iPhone or iPad on which you want to install iOS 10, go to beta.apple.com and press ‘Sign up’ to register;
  2. Enter your Apple ID and password and tap Sign In. Then accept Apple’s terms and conditions to continue;
  3. After this you need to register your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Select the tab ‘iOS’ and scroll down until you reach ‘Download Profile’;
  4. When you tap this, a new screen will open in the Settings app. Select ‘Install’ and enter your access code;
  5. Choose ‘Install’ again and then ‘Restart’ to put the profile on iDevice you. Startup may take a while;
  6. If your iPhone or iPad has restarted, go to ‘Settings> General> Software Update’ and choose ‘Download and Install’ to install the iOS 10 beta;
  7. Accept the terms, and iOS 10 will be automatically downloaded. When the download is complete, you can install the update.
