Since 2013, Storytel has been a provider of a huge collection of audiobooks and e-books (350,000+). Using the special Storytel app for iPhone and iPad, you get access to a huge collection of Dutch and English audiobooks.
In addition, Storytel also offers an exclusive collection of (audio) books under the name ‘Storytel Original Series’. What is Storytel?
Storytel’s offering is very large and varies depending on the country and language you are interested in. Overall, though, Storytel offers a huge library of audiobooks and e-books across a variety of genres, including novels, nonfiction, children’s books, and more. Its total offering includes more than 500,000 titles, making it one of the largest digital book subscription services in the world.
In addition to audio books, Storytel also offers a wide selection of e-books. These books fall into many categories: thriller, young adult, crime, science fiction, non-fiction, children and more.
Listening to a book should be pleasant, and the person who reads it plays an important role in this. There are different voices available in Storytel depending on the type of book. Well-known voices are also available, such as those of Hans Goedkoop, Loretta Schrijver, Dieuwertje Blok and Rik van de Westelaken.
You decide which voice you prefer to use when reading through an entire book. The available voices are periodically supplemented with new voices to further improve user-friendliness.
The Storytel app
The app has various functionalities that are pleasant for you as a user. This way you can continuously adjust the speed at which you want to listen to books. If you want to browse through your audiobook faster, so to speak, you can simply increase the speed to 1.5x or 2x the original speed.
The same applies the other way around: if you want to listen to an audio book in peace just before going to sleep, you can reduce the speed to a calm level with a simple controller. A sleep timer is also available. For example, if you want to listen to your favorite book half an hour before going to sleep and then gradually fall asleep, set this sleep timer.
The Storytel app plays audiobooks via the internet by default. Another option is to download books to your iPhone or iPad. This means you can also listen if you don’t have internet for a while, for example on holiday abroad.
How much does Storytel cost?
Storytel uses various subscriptions, where you pay a fixed amount per month. You can choose from the following two subscriptions:
Storytel Unlimited (€12.99 per 30 days / 1 User)
This is the basic subscription, it offers you as a user unlimited access to the entire collection of book titles. You can use all the features in the app and you can use the app on one device at a time.
It is also possible to allow one child to enjoy the subscription free of charge in the so-called ‘Kids Mode’. When the app is in this mode, it only provides access to the range of children’s book titles. The Storytel Unlimited subscription does not offer the option to create multiple profiles within one account.
Storytel Family (€ 16.99 per 30 days / 2 Users)
2 accounts (family members) with which you can listen and read unlimitedly.
For an additional €3 (€19.99), 3 family members can use the family account.
Try Storytel for free for 30 days
During this free trial period you can try out the Storytel Unlimited subscription indefinitely. You get access to all book titles, including all audiobooks, e-books and even the Storytel Original Series.
If you want to take advantage of the free trial period, you must register yourself as a customer. You do have to provide payment information (1 cent verification), but if you cancel your subscription within the trial period, the subscription will be stopped immediately and you will not pay anything else. If you do not cancel the subscription, the subscription costs will be automatically debited from your account.
