Switch off adjustments via the camera control

At the introduction of the iPhone 16, Apple Intelligence and the new camera control button were presented as the features you need. When we can use Apple Intelligence in the Netherlands is still unknown and the experiences with the new camera control button (camera control) are certainly not always positive.

The camera control on the iPhone 16 (Pro) is intended to be able to take a photo quickly and adjust the camera settings. Everything you can adjust with this button can also simply set on the screen of the iPhone, which also works a lot more convenient than the new camera control button.

Why the camera control is not handy

Apple has added too much functionality to the camera controller, which is simply too small and awkward for that. The combination of hard printing, soft printing and sweeping movements ensure that you often adjust the accidental setting. For example, if you want to press the button to take a photo, it often happens that you also move your finger slightly to the right or left, so that you unintentionally adjust a setting (zoom in or the lighting) and your photo is not optimal.

When operating the camera control button you also have to be careful that you hold the iPhone well. When using the button it happened to me a number of times that the device almost slipped out of my hands. So always ensure a good case with protection if you want to use the button.

Settings function of the Camera Control button Turn off

If you often unintentionally adjust a setting via the camera control, you can prevent the button from using it. You can also choose to switch off the adjustment function of the button. This makes the camera control button act as a normal shutter button with which you can open the camera app and take a photo.

The settings for this can be found in the settings of iOS. You can adjust the functions of the camera control button (camera control) as follows.

Camera control require soft printing off
  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone 16 (Pro).
  2. Go to the ‘camera control’ option
  3. Tap the ‘accessibility’ at the bottom of the page.
  4. In the ‘controller gesture’ section, deactivate options ‘Press soft’ and ‘wipe’.

The advanced settings can no longer be adjusted (unintentionally) via the camera control of the iPhone 16 (Pro). These are of course still just via the screen of your iPhone. The result, again beautiful photos without unintended adjustments and less chance that your iPhone will end up on the ground.
