Switch off iCloud key ring and delete data

With the help of the iCloud key ring you can synchronize login details, credit cards and passwords with all your devices via iCloud. This means you always have the most recent data available on all your devices.

Apple synchronizes the data encrypted with a 256-Bits-aes coding in your personal iCloud. Strange nor Apple, can gain access to this data. If you prefer to disable the service for some reason and want to remove all data, that is no problem at all.

Switch off iCloud key ring

  1. Open ‘Settings’ on iPhone or iPad or  â–¸ System settings on Mac
  2. Navigate to your name
  3. Tap or click on ‘iCloud’
  4. Select in the ‘Passwords’ list
  5. Switch the option ‘Synchronize this [apparaat]’ out
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen

Have you installed iOS 17, iPados 17 or older? Then you can activate this via Settings â–¸ Your name â–¸ iCloud â–¸ Key ring â–¸ Switch off the ‘iCloud key ring’ option. On a Mac with MacOS Sonoma or parent you will find this via  â–¸ System Preferences â–¸ Your Apple Account â–¸ iCloud â–¸ Switch off the ‘Key ring’ option.

Delete passwords and data from iCloud

iCloud key ring is a service and does not store any data in iCloud itself. The function ensures that when you update a password or knew it was also immediately adjusted to all your linked devices. iCloud is only a medium to create this synchronization. Because nothing is stored, you cannot remove from iCloud either.
