tado° is pleased to announce that Balance for Heat Pumps now works with Time-of-Use and fixed rates, as well as dynamic hourly rates. In addition to looking at when electricity prices are lowest, Balance also checks the weather forecast to see when it will be warmest, so it can automatically switch on your heat pump when it is most efficient and cost-effective.
tado° is a major player in intelligent home energy management solutions. tado° recently made its innovative ‘Balance for Heat Pumps’ service available for all electricity tariffs.
Balance
Balance previously focused on lowering household heating and cooling bills with dynamic hourly rates, by automatically using the heat pump at times when energy prices were at their lowest. tado° recently announced that Balance now works with both static Time-of-Use rates (including day/night or peak/off-peak) and fixed rates, allowing the heat pumps to operate more efficiently and use less electricity. This will reduce energy bills for millions of households in Europe.
Smart algorithm
When Balance’s smart algorithm is used in combination with the new tado° Heat Pump Optimizer X, Balance determines the best and most cost-efficient time for an air-to-water heat pump to use electricity in two ways. It identifies the times when electricity is cheapest and automatically switches on the heat pump at these times. At the same time, it keeps an eye on local weather forecasts to identify the warmest part of the day, allowing the air-to-water heat pump to operate more efficiently and use less electricity. This is because the air it uses to turn into hot water for a heating system is at its highest temperature at these times. This innovative use of outside temperatures means that even households on fixed tariffs can benefit from the efficiency that Balance and tado° deliver.
In addition, tado° is bringing its Energy IQ service – previously only available with its Auto-Assist subscription – to Balance customers, providing insights into consumption and savings straight from the Heat Pump Optimizer X.

Cost Balance for Heat Pumps
Despite the new innovations and the addition of Energy IQ insights, the costs for Balance for Heat Pumps remain unchanged, namely €5.99 per month or €49.99 per year (including VAT).
Heat Pump Optimizer X
Heat Pump Optimizer X works great with the heat pump’s master controller, allowing customers to easily set a smart schedule for their heating and hot water and manually adjust temperatures in the tado° app.

With the addition of Smart Radiator Thermostat X, heating in homes with heat pumps can be controlled individually on a room-by-room basis, which is unique to tado°.
When used in combination with the tado° Balance for Heat Pumps service, the Heat Pump Optimizer X can shift the times when the heat pump is active to when electricity prices are lower. This applies to both space heating and hot water heating.
Heat Pump Optimizer X is compatible with the main manufacturers on the European market: Atlantic, Vaillant, Saunier Duval and Fujitsu. Compatibility for Daikin, Panasonic, NIBE and other brands will follow.
