A screenshot is, as it were, a picture of something that can be seen on the screen. On the Mac, quickly take a screenshot with a key combination.

With a screenshot you record what can be seen on the screen. Handy if you have a computer problem, for example. Then you can send the screenshot to a helpdesk or knowledgeable acquaintance. But a screenshot can be used for more things. For example, the images accompany articles on Seniorweb.nl to clarify the explanation. A screenshot is also known as a screenshot or screenshot.

On the Mac, take a screenshot using keyboard shortcuts. A hotkey is a combination of keys that you press on the keyboard. In this article we discuss three different combinations, each of which captures a different part of the screen. We assume a Mac with the operating system macOS 10.12 Sierra and higher.

The fastest is to take a screenshot of the entire screen. Everything you see will be photographed. Press the Cmd+Shift+3 keys simultaneously. Shift is the key that has an up arrow on it. The Mac automatically saves the screenshot to the Desktop.

Want to save only part of the screen in the screenshot? That’s how it works:

  • Press the Cmd+Shift+4 keys simultaneously. Shift is the key that has an up arrow on it.
  • A cross pointer appears on the screen. Move the pointer to where you want the screenshot to begin.
  • Click and hold the mouse button and drag the pointer over the part of the screen you want to capture.
  • Release the mouse button.

The screenshot is automatically saved to the Desktop.

It is possible to take a screenshot of a certain window, for example that of the Internet browser Safari.

  • Press the Cmd+Shift+4 keys simultaneously.
  • Press the spacebar.
  • The mouse pointer changes to a camera. Move the pointer to the window you want to take a screenshot of.
  • The window turns blue. Click on the window.

The screenshot is automatically saved to the Desktop.
