TekaPoint is a free tool to annotate your screen during presentations. You don’t need to install the tool, just extract the zip file and open the tekapoint.exe file. You can also use the app from a USB stick.

Use the keys

There is no download button on the TekaPoint homepage. This is a donationware program. If donations are not for you, you can still get them for free by 0 euros in the donation box and click Enter to push. This will take you to the download link.

Once opened you will not see any menu or toolbars, you will only notice that the mouse pointer has become a fat red arrow. With the left mouse button you can now draw freehand. Press F1 and you see a kind of digital cheat sheet, which contains all the keys to work smoothly with this program. Of F2 for example open the shapes. You control the pen width with the numeric keys, with t put a text block and so on. You can also select the colors with the buttons; W gives for example white and R stands for red.

You make the notes directly on the screen.

Save Notes

You make your notes on the active screen, or on a white or heavy background. This is useful, for example, if you have a presentation or want to explain the operation of a particular program in more detail. You can save your notes with Ctrl+S and if you’re on esc Press, TekaPoint exits and saves the active annotation. TekaPoint stores the annotations in the user’s Temp folder. To move through the saved notes, use the left and right arrow keys on the keyboard.

Conclusion

It probably takes some getting used to the different use and the different keys, but by pressing F1 you always find the right combination. Anyone who gives demos during a screen-sharing session in a team meeting will certainly appreciate this app.

TekaPoint has a limited shapes library.
