Chat app Telegram has been completely renewed with the arrival of version 5.0. These are the three main improvements of Telegram 5.0.
Telegram 5.0 gives the app a new look
In addition to the improvements below, the Telegram macOS app has also been addressed. The Mac version now supports the Touch Bar and customized swipe control. This brings the Mac app closer to the version on the iPhone and iPad. Telegram 5.0 tackles the following on iOS, in addition to the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.
1. Rebuilt with Swift
Telegram looks mostly the same after the arrival of 5.0, but a lot has changed behind the scenes. The app is built entirely with Apple’s Swift programming language, which is better aligned with iOS. This makes the animations smoother and speeds up the app.

Another big advantage of Swift: Telegram now requires less from your battery. The app also synchronizes faster between different devices on which you run Telegram. Handy if you use the app on both your iPhone and iPad.
2. Notifications adjusted
Telegram’s notifications have also been overhauled with the arrival of version 5.0. Even if you are already using the app, you will now receive a notification if someone in another conversation sends you something. A big improvement, because previously you no longer received notifications when the application was on your screen.
By swiping these notifications down, you jump directly to the relevant conversation, so that you can navigate through Telegram just a little more easily. Are you done answering? Then you press the back button to continue with what you were doing.
3. New counter on the app icon
People who like to keep their home screen tidy, with as few red dots on app icons as possible, will be happy with this new feature. Version 5.0 will no longer show an app badge of chats you have muted. Handy if you are in group conversations and can read a hundred messages after an afternoon of viewing.
That way you can be sure that if there is a number next to the Telegram icon, it is from a message that has been sent specifically to you.
