That’s how the new 360-degree selfies work on the iPhone X.

Apple has added ‘Selfie Scenes’ to its Clips app for the iPhone X. You can use it to take a photo of yourself as a hologram in a Star Wars setting, for example.

Clips update

Apple’s Clips app has received a major update. It is now possible to create Selfie Scenes and new effects have been added. With the Selfie Scenes, users can place themselves in 360-degree animations. This concerns, for example, cities, landscapes, in a sketchpad and some Star Wars settings.

The feature can be found in the latest version of the Clips app. By tapping ‘scenes’ next to the camera, you open the backgrounds. You can then choose one and rotate it in 360 degrees. In selfie mode, it therefore seems like you are in a different world. For this, the app uses the new front camera on the iPhone X, which can register depth and thus show the user separately from the background.

Selfie scenes

In addition to presenting different backgrounds, Clips also works with all kinds of filters. For example, users can place themselves on board the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars. Their faces are presented as a hologram, just like in the movies.

At the moment there are twelve scenes available in the app. They offer different locations and filters, which are applied with machine learning. New ‘Posters’ have also been added to the app. You can use it in home videos in the app. These are posters of Star Wars and other Disney additions, such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, but also other pictures from the Pixar films.

iCloud

Apple has also slightly changed the design of the app. This makes it easier to let users add effects to video projects. There is also now iCloud support, so that projects can be reached from different devices.

Clips appeared in the App Store in April. With the app you can easily create videos to share with family and friends. We have listed some Apple Clips tips for beginners.
