The Xbox Series X and S have been out for a year, so it’s time to keep a list of the best games you can find on Microsoft’s platforms. Below is therefore an overview of the 10 best Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S games in our opinion!
Microsoft Flight Simulator
Full of envy, console owners watched as PC gamers took to the world in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Fortunately, the game finally came to the Xbox Series X and S in 2021, so that we can also see beautiful landscapes with the controller. At least, then you have to take the time to understand the basic controls of this incredibly extensive simulator. Fortunately, the game is packed with useful tutorials and fun Discovery Flights to take on a vacation. In addition, free updates are regularly released that make parts of the world even more beautiful and detailed, so with Microsoft Flight Simulator you are also good on Xbox for the time being.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the best platformers you can play right now. It largely builds on the already grandiose Ori and the Blind Forest and perfects almost every facet of the gameplay. The powers given to the animal make platforming through the carefully designed forest more interesting at a rapid pace and the full-fledged combat system produces some memorable boss fights. It all goes hand in hand with the emotional story and beautiful graphics on the Series X and S. Seriously, on next-gen consoles, Ori and the Will of the Wisps may be the best game out there.
Hades
Hades is obviously a PC game par excellence, and a Switch title for handheld fans, but we couldn’t resist adding this modern classic to the list. On Series X and S, Hades plays as smooth as can be, bringing out the iconic hack ‘n slash combat. Run after run you hack into each other as Zagreus, groups of monsters and bosses, getting closer and closer to the end of the underworld. Not only the infinite variety of builds you can use, but also the weapons, the beautiful music and the gossip between the gods themselves mean that you can keep playing Hades for hundreds of hours.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
After years of being the face of the Yakuza franchise, Kazuma Kiryu gives way to the younger Ichiban. That was an excellent reason for developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio to successfully change things up with a new setting and a different combat system. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is mainly a wacky open world RPG, where the main character imagines that he is in a fantasy world and fights against monsters. In addition to the surprisingly successful turn-based combat system, you build relationships with companions, watch very long cutscenes and fight a monkey in a digger. Like a Dragon is nice and crazy and a very good RPG.
It Takes Two
For years, Joseph Fares has wearied us with his stories of connection, passion and variation in games, but with It Takes Two his story is finally justified. The game can only be played in co-op – you only need one copy to do that online – and is all about working together and getting closer together. That’s what you do when Cody and May, who in a rather… turbulent relationship turn into puppets, have to work together in a variety of settings. The variation in gameplay and levels is unprecedented: one time you move through an ice world, the other time you get involved in a war between squirrels and wasps. Yes, It Takes Two is also genuinely funny – perfect for playing with your significant other.
gear 5
Gears 5 is Microsoft’s flagship product. Not only does it get the most out of the Xbox One X, but it has also become the epitome of the new generation of consoles. Apart from the beautiful appearance, Gear 5 is also just a very good shooter in which Kait Diaz especially emerges as the main character. Its development and interaction with allies keeps the campaign interesting, as well as the gameplay variety it brings. For example, for the first time in the Gears franchise, you can explore several open areas, and the adorable robot Jack brings in a welcome RPG element. With a still well-supported multiplayer mode, Gears 5 is definitely one of the best Xbox Series X and S titles.
Immortals Fenyx Rising
That Ubisoft’s Zelda: Breath of the Wild clone is actually a good game was quite a surprise. Yet it is true: Immortals Fenyx Rising offers an expansive open world that invites you to be explored. As you guessed every obstacle is climbable, you can soar with the wings of Daedalus and solve amazingly fun puzzles. Immortals is therefore a very soothing game, in which it doesn’t really matter when you do what. The Greek mythological world is literally at your feet.
Psychonauts 2
Tim Schafer took a lot of time for the sequel to Psychonauts. So long that Microsoft took over his studio Double Fine and we can classify Psychonauts 2 under the list of ‘Xbox games’, even though the game also appeared on other platforms. Whatever you play it on, Psychonauts 2 is an insanely good platform with some really good ideas for level design. Protagonist Raz still delves into the minds of others, and that simply produces hilarious and moving scenes. In addition, he has new powers, which give the game almost a metroidvenia-like element, although it is mainly about nice smooth platforming and fighting with manifested problems. Psychonauts 2 is simply a hit, so don’t skip it.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ubisoft tackles some of the biggest pain points from Odyssey and Origins. For example, the structure of the gigantic open-world RPG is much more pleasant: those who want to follow the story do not have to grind as much and subtle dots on the map stimulate your curiosity. Furthermore, the Viking era is just a very cool setting for an Assassin’s Creed. When Eivor takes England by the blunt ax it never gets old, and the idea that every alliance you forge has an impact on the story gives players a purpose as they play.
Forza Horizon 5
The Forza Horizon series manages to outdo itself time and again and PlayGround Games has again succeeded with the fifth part. This time, players go on an adventure in Mexico. The open world playground we know from the series is more beautiful than ever this time around in stunning 4K at 60fps. What does a man want more? Racing, stunting or making your own minigames? The possibilities are endless.
