The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store is working overtime every week to process the endless stream of new apps and updates. However, you hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad could use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Pixelmator Photo
Pixelmator has been an editor’s favorite when it comes to photo editing for years. With Pixelmator Photo there is now an excellent way for the iPad to edit your photos quickly and well. If you know Pixelmator, you can immediately start using Pixelmator Photo. The same icons are used and the layout of the app is also structured in a similar way.
Good to know is that only the essentials have been transferred from Pixelmator Pro to Photo. For example, you cannot combine multiple photos by overlaying different layers. Pixelmator Photo actually consists of two main functions: editing the colors in your photo and buffing out imperfections.
2. Facebook Lite
Facebook Lite for your iPhone can now also be used in the Netherlands. The stripped-down version of the social platform takes up less space, works better with slow internet and is more economical with data. The app is intended for users in emerging countries, but for Dutch people who are only sporadically on Facebook, Lite is also a godsend.
For example, icons are less ‘dressed up’ and animations have been cut back. Loading times take longer, so you have to wait a little longer. Videos are also shown in a lower quality. This makes it possible to watch movies, even with a slow internet connection. Finally, the download takes up a lot less space; 9MB for Facebook Late versus 250MB for the ‘normal version’.
3. Pollen news
The hay fever season is back in full swing and if you suffer from it, you would rather not be faced with surprises. Pollennieuws is one of the best-known and most useful apps for this. The app presents the pollen forecast in dry weather on a map of the Netherlands. Colors indicate the magnitude of the ‘threat’ on the map.
Users can assign a number to how much hay fever they suffer that day and indicate what the symptoms are. The reports help Pollennieuws map out where hay fever is most affected. With statistics you can see what the average hay fever figure is and what the most symptoms are. You can also see that regionally.
4. Jumbo
The new app aims to monitor and improve your privacy on the internet. The program does that by letting you manage all your personal information on social media from one place. Jumbo currently works with Twitter, Facebook, Google searches and Amazon Alexa. The principle is simple.
With the app you can choose to delete tweets automatically. In this way, the short messages disappear automatically after a day, week, month or three months. In addition, the app makes it easier to protect your Facebook profile by bundling the endless list of privacy settings for you. Jumbo can also delete your Google searches automatically.
