The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 16 (2018) here.
The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part of it is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.
1. Notability
Notability is a very complete app that you can use to make standard notes, annotate PDF files and sketch on images and photos. The app also includes the option to record audio and provide it with certain tags, so that you can easily find it later. This is useful if, for example, you want to listen to a lecture or meeting later.
In addition, Notability automatically stores all your files in iCloud, so they are always up-to-date. A nice addition is the good support of the Apple Pencil. Furthermore, you can easily organize all your notes by placing them in clear folders. With a price of 10.99 euros, Notability is certainly not a cheap app, but is yours with one purchase, without in-app purchases.
2. Outcast
Apple is increasingly marketing the Apple Watch as a standalone device, which is worthwhile even without an iPhone nearby. The only thing missing is to listen to a podcast during this walk. Outcast responds cleverly to this, because with this app you don’t need your iPhone to listen to podcasts. Only a bluetooth headset (or AirPods) are sufficient.
Once you know how basic Outcast works, the app has some nice extras. There are nine theme colors to choose from, you can change the playback speed or fast forward. Especially since Apple itself does not provide an alternative, that makes Outcast an excellent way to listen to podcasts without an iPhone. This will probably be a godsend, especially for athletes, because you can just keep the app running in the background to keep listening.
3. Black
Black is a camera app that takes a slightly different approach than other apps you will find in the App Store. Rather than giving you as many color options as possible, Black only shoots photos in black and white. But more is possible with that than you think.
For example, you can take photos with different types of old-fashioned cameras, each of which yields different results. You can also adjust contrast and lighting settings directly in the app. You can also save your chosen settings so that you can use them again later.
4. Bear Focus Timer
We can all use a little extra help from time to time to concentrate on work or school. Bear Focus Timer helps you with this without putting pressure on you. You simply lay your iPhone flat and the bear keeps an eye on the timer for you. While concentrating, Bear Focus Timer can provide you with background noise, although this is easy to turn off.
As soon as you have earned a break, the app will let you know with a flash or a sound. While you are at work, the bear undertakes all kinds of activities. If you turn your iPhone over earlier than time allows, you will only be left with an angry bear.
