The 4 best iOS apps in the App Store from week 31 – 2018

The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 31 here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Google Assistant

We had to wait for a while, but it is finally possible to use the Dutch Google Assistant on your iPhone. The Google Assistant works in much the same way as Siri, and you can ask simple questions to help you further. For example, ask for a joke, if the Assistant wants to set a timer or what your favorite football club did last weekend. The Assistant is completely tailored to Dutch users and therefore contains many typical Dutch jokes and facts.

De Assistant works together with several Dutch companies and broadcasters, for which the so-called ‘Actions on Google’ are used. This means that companies, such as Albert Heijn, Bol.com and RTL Nieuws, can build in specific functions.

2. WhatsApp

Apple will let us wait until September until we can make group calls with FaceTime, but an update is already available for WhatsApp. This adds the ability to have an audio or video call with up to four people at the same time. That number is relatively low, especially when you compare it with competing services such as FaceTime and Skype, in which you can have a conversation with 32 and 24 people respectively at the same time.

Even if one of the participants in the conversation has a bad internet connection, you should still be able to have a good video call. WhatsApp emphasizes that all conversations (just like written messages) are secured with end-to-end encryption. The service thus retains its strong privacy measures.

3. The Eyes of Ara

Do you like puzzle games in the style of The Room, or adventure games like Myst? Then The Eyes of Ara is really something for you. In the game, a boat takes you to a huge castle full of puzzles and secret rooms. By looking around carefully, collecting objects and solving riddles, you will get further and further in this special building.

Unique to The Eyes of Ara is that it was made almost entirely by one person. You wouldn’t say that, because the game is beautiful and extensive. The story isn’t really worth it in the end, but do you like an adventure that revolves around puzzles? Then you’ve come to the right place at The Eyes of Ara, even though the game is quite expensive.

4. Self-Control

With Self-Control you force yourself to leave your iPhone behind while studying or in the lecture hall. The app gives you a password with random numbers and letters that is virtually impossible to remember. Then you change that yourself again and set a timer for how long you want to learn.

Then you log out and your phone is locked until the timer has expired. If you still want to use your iPhone while blocking, you must enter the password. You can write it down, but that is of course cheating.
