The 4 best iOS apps in the App Store from week 39 – 2018

The week is over and that means that a fresh app overview is waiting for you! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss these new apps, games and updates. You can find the best iOS apps from week 39 here.

The best iOS apps at a glance

The App Store works overtime every week to handle the never-ending stream of new apps and updates. However, you will hardly notice this, because only a small part is worth installing. If your iPhone or iPad can use some new apps, you’ve come to the right place.

1. Google Maps

Google is rolling out a poll function in its latest update for Google Maps. Choosing where you and your friends are going to eat is a lot easier. You add all the restaurants where you would like to eat to a list by pressing longer on a location.

You then share this list with your friends, after which they can vote for their favorite spot. Anyone who has access to the list can add or remove restaurants themselves. When you open the shared list, you will see all marked locations on the Maps map. The restaurant with the most votes is colored green. You can also see who voted for what.

2. Room Racer AR

The crazy AR racing game Room Racer AR has been updated to take full advantage of the ARKit 2.0 of iOS 12. The most important addition is the possibility to play with two players in the same room. This makes racing against each other a lot fun, because you see each other’s reaction.

There is also a new battery saver mode and the quality of the graphics has been improved. Room Racer AR lets you place a racetrack anywhere you want. The multiplayer mode was previously only possible with friends who each saw a race track on their own screen. So now you can play in the same room on the same ‘projected’ race track.

There are nine standard race tracks to choose from. When you have completed all of these, you can build your own tracks via the Track Builder. Along the way you can collect all kinds of power-ups to thwart opponents.

3. Foodsy

With the Foodsy delivery service, you no longer need to miss a transfer at the train station. Because you can order food in advance at eateries at a station of your choice, you get food without having to wait.

You place your order via the app at your favorite restaurant or pick-up place at the station where you are going to transfer. This works just like with Thuisbezorgd. Then indicate at what time the food should be ready. The option as soon as possible ensures that it is ready within eight minutes. It is also possible to plan a date or time in advance.

Finally, you already pay via the app, so that you only have to pick it up. This can be done via iDeal, PayPal and Foodsy Easypay.

4. YouTube

YouTube has added HDR support to the iOS app. This feature applies to iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max owners. With such a device you can now play videos in HDR, so that the image quality shoots up.

You can turn on HDR per video, or select the top option so that the function turns on automatically. The iPhone X already received HDR support in YouTube earlier this year. HDR, High Dynamic Range, stands for a wide color range. More colors are distinguished, which improves the image quality. This makes objects appear more lively and colors look fuller.

The update is already out, but it may still take a few days before the function actually works on your device. This is being rolled out gradually.
